So I’m new to bow hunting and keep hearing about a second runt. When does that typically take place?

If you don’t get a response from your first grunt, go ahead and try a second grunt.

In one of the "Gunsmoke" shows, there was a young boy who witnessed a murder.  His name was runt.   Now I am confused.

Has anyone actually witnessed a fourth runt? My uncle said he saw runting activity in late February last year.

It is a scientific proven fact, that the actual rut will start 6 days & 8 hours & 21 minutes after the second runt ends.  Plan on seriously hunting at that time period.
The difficult part is determining when the second runt ends.  Lots of boots on the ground required.
Good Luck.

Our second runt is reporting a few scrapes showing up on his property. He also commented how dry it is & that deer are hanging around water as well. Second runt also commented on a lack of acorns in the woods as well.

Really looking forward to the runt!  I like it when bucks put down scraps for the other deer to come visit and eat.  Deer really like eating scraps.  Nature is really neat!

The action is always less during the second runt because most of the does are bread already.

During the runt, I've seen bucks make scrapes on trees and rub the ground.

I know a guy who actually talked like that.

When I hunt the runt I'm looking for the long browse tines.

polski!    that may be, but the "RUNT" is also a time of year when white tail deer begin to procreate!

My last comment on this dumb crap...Google RUNT....an animal that is smaller than average, especially the smallest of a litter.  On the other hand maybe that's what some of you are chasing...SMFH

second runt usually occurs on or near first part of December when immature does come into estrous, its not as heavy as november but sometimes there can be some hot activity, with bucks chasing etc.
