When you get out-everyone likes hearing the update.  Will be a hot opener, but I will be in a tree this time tomorrow.  Stay safe, use harness and other safety gear in trees, and aim small, miss small.  Have a great season everyone.

I think the majority of the runt is over. You’ll still see a little runting here and there but it will be sporadic.

Wow, congratulations to everyone who has made some great memories this season thus far!  There are some awesome stories and great deer posted.  I haven't been on LL at all this season and thought I would stop in and post some photos from my most successful archery season I've ever had.
I was fortunate enough to put myself in front of a big old SE WI public land buck on October 10th.  It was youth season (and yes I wore orange, only took it off for a few photos, while sitting down and my two buddies were standing wearing orange) and I was fortunate enough to make a good shot at a tough angle and he went 60 yards.
Then a month later, on November 9th, I was able to connect on my largest public land buck to date in IL with some great buddies.  Its been a very blessed archery season and I don't think I'll ever be able to beat there two big old buggers.
Best of luck to all of those still looking to punch a tag.  I'm taking the rest of the season off and hunting with my 8 year old son for gun season where we will be looking to drink hot chocolate and have as much fun as possible.

Been seeing deer every day by my deer blind the past couple of weeks.  Not sure what happened before that because my camera got flipped upside down and took pictures of the sky until my plan ran out of pictures, lol!  This nice buck walked (or ran) by my blind about 20 yards from it yesterday.  Hope he's around still in 2 weeks for gun season cause I already got my buck for bow season!

We have had a year for the books.  Started with my son shooting a doe and a small 6pt during the youth hunt.  Then in late October my son shot the attached buck archery that he named wide bob. 20 1/4 in spread 10pt. I was fortunate enough to draw new mexico elk and shot attached elk last week. I will be out tomorrow looking for my archery buck.

Congratulations to everyone who's gotten one so far this year, and good luck to those still grinding. These are all great deer.

I have to agree on bow vs rifle, if I could only hunt one season or the other it's archery, hands down. I love rifle, too, but it's changed over the years. Now it's more tradition than anything, but I will always be out there as long as I'm able.

With work and other stuff going on I didn't even get out until the last week of October. I usually have my best luck during that week, but it was really slow for me this year. I had 2 good sits for seeing bucks; Nov. 2nd and 4th, both on the same stand in a good movement funnel. Shortly after 8 am on the 4th I had a decent younger buck work his way into view, followed a few seconds later by a larger bodied deer. They were about 125 yards away, moving through the hardwoods. The bigger buck was bullying the younger one and so he ended up coming toward me, eventually passing 10 yards in front of me. I was hoping the mature buck would follow, but he was all jacked up and kept working a tree in the area I'd first seen them. He was acting really dominant, but seemed satisfied he didn't need to continue pushing the smaller buck off. He turned and acted like he might go back in the direction they came from.

The smaller buck was about 30 yards on the opposite side of me at this point and I figured I had nothing to lose, so I used him as bait. I tipped a bleat can a couple of times and gave out a quick series of grunts. I knew he would be locked on to my location and figured if he spooked and took off running it would only up the ante, making the bigger buck think he was actually chasing a doe. It got the bigger buck's attention, but not enough to move him, so I gave another bleat and a louder grunt. He started walking my direction, so I put my full attention on him and completely ignored the other buck. It didn't take him long to cover the distance between us, and within a minute or so he was in range. The way it was all going down I figured I better take the first good opportunity, so when he stopped with his head behind a tree I did. After the shot he ran down across a steep drainage and up the other side, stopping about 75 yards away. A few seconds later he started to wobble and fell over. He rolled down the hill a few feet and it was over.

Sorry it's a little long-winded, but I always love to hear the story behind a hunt.

Congratulations on all the fine specimens posted this year by everyone, there are some very fine bucks. Bow hunting is so awesome anyone who only gun hunts really does miss out.  Jimmer, Tito, Dude and others I always look forward to your reports, that's what this site is all about.    Good luck to all still trying to punch a tag before the orange army invades the woods.

Got lucky this year with this slick 8. Came in for a drink at last light all by itself. Shoutout to my grandson Lucas with recovery help.
Good luck to all my fellow deer hunters.

I got a nice 8 with a busted off G2 yesterday morning in Jefferson County.  Cruising by solo.  Stopped less than 15 yards in front of my stand.

Finally got it done tonight after hunting morning and night over the past 8 days. Saw a couple really nice bucks but never came together. Happy with this guy! Good luck to everyone still trying to punch a tag!

Had an eight and a doe breeding in my backyard today.  He drove off a spike just before she was ready.  Hung around her for about two hours before she was ready for him.   Brown County WI

The big boys are coming out to play!  First time I saw this deer, yesterday.  Lots of bucks finally showing themselves during the daytime yesterday.  According to my records, next week where I hunt is when I see the most bucks during the day on my cameras.  Too bad I already got my buck, but that's alright!
