2019 Archery Season
Dude, there was nothing on the arrow to smell. Reason i was thinking high was the sporadic blood, seems like a low hit would leave a more consistent trail?
I think i found where he was standing when i jumped him, didnt find any blood and he looked fine, but as you know its hard to tell for sure.
surprised at lack of activity seen or not seen with the deer lately, haven't been hunting but just scouting and driving, have not seen any car hit deer or anything running in fields etc. just odd for this time of year, hopefully this week will amp up when I can get back in stand.
Nice deer Junkie and Kevin!
Gray hair and clipping the top of the back doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I would guess you shot low and just clipped the bottom of him. The fact you jumped him during tracking would make me a little nervous that he was injured worse than a flesh wound, but hopefully I'm wrong. Did you smell the arrow?
P.s. great deer everyone!!
And on a side note, a buddy of mine got his first ever bow deer today. A spike buck.
Congrats to everyone!
Thanks murman, thats kind of what i was thinking. Thing is i dont remember him jumping the string or anything, dont know how the hell i shot that high.
Probably just grazed the top of the shoulder blade area.
Had a 8 come in to 25 yards
Stopped him with a grunt, and managed to botch the shot. Grey hair on the ground and no blood at the shot site. Found the arrow, nothing on it but some hair and mud. Track about 50 yards and find a drop or 2 of blood, dark red. Another 50 and another 1 or2 drops, another 50 and same. Then nothing. Tracked him another 200 or so yards and jumped him in the neighbor's woods. Seemed fine. Found where he stood and no blood.
Im thinking maybe i shot high and shaved his back and nicked him a bit? Not sure. Bit the blood that was found was dark, like a muscle hit. Thoughts?
Sat the evening. At dark, buck came near, hung out at 25 yards. Too dark to know how big. Drive home, twice saw bucks chasing does. Just takes a hot doe to change ones luck. Now daylights saving prevents after work hunts. Stupid daylights savings.
