Hunted again this year same spot as last year. Very unusual for public land, we didn't see any hunters at all today and not much shooting. Once again missed a Buck yesterday All in all saw 5 deer yesterday, I live near West Bend so this is fairly close to my house. This is the 4th year since hunting up north but the 5 yesterday still beets the last 5 years total around St Germain!

I hunted northern Kettle Moraine this afternoon and saw a good hundred hunters on the roads and by the parking lots. I saw one fresh deer track in 3 miles of walking and several a few days old. Most of the deer tracks were being followed by hunters. I saw a turkey at 4:00 though. That was nice but very few deer and lots of hunters and tons of them by New Fane.

I haven't been up there for a long time but might make the trip this weekend. Two questions. 1; Is it EAB and 2; Can you park off the road and walk in any place or do you need to be in a lot. If I need to be in a lot, where do i find them. Thanks for the help. Uncle Buck

I got out for a few hours this afternoon. Lots of guys out yet, and I didn't even see a deer track, just a bunch of turkeys.

Last year I drove through the northern kettle and could see tons of Blaze all over the place from the road! Felt like I was taking my life in my hands just driving through! Thank god I hunt private in Adams County! haven't and never will step foot on public for Deer gun season!

Hunted just out of New Fane both days. Had a shot at a small buck yesterday morning and today I probably saw the biggest buck that I have ever seen. I unloaded on him with no luck. I wish I would have bought the rifled barrell that I was going to buy. Bot deer were close to 100 yards and with a regular barrell its a reach. My Dad also got afew shots off at some does today. Had some guys doing drives at the end of the day but no deer pushed. I will definatly be back to this area. This is the third year that I have not gone up north and have seen way more action 30 minutes from home. Good luck to all who are lucky enough to hunt during the week.

My dad, brother, and I have been hunting south of Dundee for several years now with success every year, including the early herd control hunt in October, and late antler-less in December. The area we hunt borders the Wildlife Refuge and is overlook. Each year there’s about ten hunters, including us, in our area. With all the hunting pressure around us I would say out of all the deer we’ve harvested about 70% of them were on the run, including my dad's 8 pt with a 21 inch inside spread that scored 138 during the 2006 gun season.

Keeping an eye out for those overlooked areas do pay off.

guys,

yes there are a lot of hunters, but they're concentrated and other areas that are void of hunters.. i pick areas with other hunters because they push the deer and keep em moving. a few years back, the dnr did a study where they had several folks drive around the hunting areas opening day. they found there were almost 150 vehicles parked around the thousands of acres of the Kettle Moraine. most of these were in packs of 10 or more.

with that in mind, there were about 25 areas with vehicles parked. many areas were untouched or not hunted.

too bad for you guys, i will always hunt the kettles. have for 18 years and have harvested a deer each and every year. there is only one year i have hunted past saturday morning and that's when i went back for bonus deer.

i do agree that certain spots can become war zones, but avoid them. it's not that tough. there is so much land, you could go and not see another hunter all day. oh well, to each his own.!!!!

If you're suicidal, go for it. I tried hunting near Dundee about 6 or seven years ago also. 6:30 rolled around, I heard a noise behind me, I turned aorund, here there's a guy 50ft behind me. There were guys everywhere. It looked like a pumpkin patch in the woods. Needless to say, my opening weekend was a bust after that.

I've hunted Theresa on opening morning also. There's guys every 50-75 yds apart. You can tell when a deer is getting close to you because the gunshots get louder. That's why I won't hunt public on opening weekend anymore.

Absolutely the last time I will ever set foot on public hunting grounds during a firearms deer season was in the northern Kettle Moraine in 2002.

I hunted east of Kewaskum. It is very crowded. I hunted Theresa, it's worse yet. I have yet to see a deer gun or bow while in the stand.
