I am looking for a lake to fish this summer for musky. I live just north of Milwaukee in the West Bend area and would be fine with driving up to about 2 hours and make a weekend trip. I have a small boat and want to find a lake in the surrounding area that is good for musky. Lots of Pike in this area but i have not been able to find many musky. Dont want your hotspots just the lake. I will fish and learn the lake myself. Any and all help is much appreciated!

You can't go wrong with Big or Little Green. Trophy fish of every species in Big Green. You could drive to Madison. Good fishing on both Mendota and Monona. Castle Rock and Petenwell might be close enough as well. I like Big Green. It's nearly an hour for me to get there, but it has a lot to offer. Big body of water, so you really don't get crowded. Plenty of shoreline to work. Lots of depth changes/dropoffs/ledges to work. You can find lots of fish of different species all over the lake.

Pewaukee can be good but at times expect other boats close enough to hold a conversation with them. It's a well known musky lake.

Okauchee is known for big muskies but not numbers. Pewaukee is an action lake and has some big ones but not many. Oconomowoc lake has muskies in it. All these lakes are close to milwaukee so they do see a good amount of pressure. Then you have the Madison chain and lake Wisconsin has muskies in it. All these lakes can get rough for a small boat if it's pretty windy out. Maybe talk to the regions fish biologist for more info on Muskie fishing or look at stocking records for lakes you are thinking of fishing.

I've always had good luck on Pewaukee Lake, though I know some on here are saying it hasn't been as good as in earlier years. And that's just a stone's throw in terms of distance.
