I’m here in northern Idaho lake pend o oreille. My first year fishin for pike although 2 yrs ago I release a 12 pounder. But this yr even though I no longer have a boat it back to bank fishin again. I had an aluminum credtliner canadian 14’ . It was perfect sold it because I needed a reliable truck more than a boat! . Onto my ? Has anyone used Pautske fire dye on their herring or Smelt when tossing dead bait ? Fishing from shore I need all the help I can get and am thinking of getting their fire dye in chartruse , gold or blue. Pike a savages but am I waiting my money using a dye? 4 1/2 oz puts the dye in strong an hour before fishin your bait is shiney and it hardens bait just right do. They say . Thanks, and I’m threading my herring using owner SSW 5/0 hooks . There’s huge oike here a nice local guide sent me big big pike pics no more holding it’s called cradling 😁 at that very early spring there’s a window of opportunity but he’s local grew up here knows the game. I’m sure you pike men get to do slot of fish cradling🤣!

I bought some to soak some smelt in for ice fishing. I have to say we get more hits on smelt dyed red than we do on regular smelt.
I put the smelt and dye in a gallon ziplock back overnight in the refrigerator. Next morning drain off and bait is good to go when I am ice fishing.
I have not tried it fishing from shore, but only on smelt for tip-ups ice fishing.
