What is the best tip up set up to use for ice fishing pike? (i.e line, hooks, bait, etc)
Pike Ice Fishing Tips
Just freezing them doesn’t comply with WDNR dead bait regulations. Those came into effect a few years ago as part of the effort to slow down the spread of VHS.
More info here:
Just freeze em.
What is everyone doing for dead bait preservation? I have a batch of 9-10" minnows in rubbing alcohol but no fish on them yet. Dont have a lot of confidence in them personally, feel like the alcohol scent would be off putting to fish.
I started using big dead bait with good results a few weeks ago.9-10” sardines on a quick strike rig.
Cheaper the better. pinch off the ends for more scent dispersion. They work better in waters with low visability.
Is there a brand of hot dogs people like best? Going to try this!
A big tasty brat might excite them monsters too! Lol It’s always worth the try!!
Lots of great info here. There is not a bait big enough for big pike. I recently caught a 26” pike that was shredded from behind the gills backwards. It was obviously hit by a huge pike or possibly remnant Muskie. We have been using chubs and suckers up to 8” and recently bought frozen sardines that are 9-10” long. My son caught a 27” pike on one of them on a quick strike rig.
I once’s used a 24” sucker while Muskie fishing and had a Muskie close to 50” on for 5 minutes until it shook loose.
