trouble picking up jig on Hummingbird flasher?

I have been having trouble picking up my jig on my ice 35 lately so I got curious and read the manual. I didn't know this but my unit only has 800 watts of power. The ice 55 has 2500 watts! I didn't know that when I bought it, or I would have paid the extra money for the higher watts. Just wondering if any of you guys have been having trouble with picking up your jig on an ice 35. I have to crank up my gain almost all the way in order to see my jig. Also, if there are weeds, I am screwed. I can't make out my jig once it gets below the weedline. That kind of sucks because the weeds may not be directly below your hole, they may be off to the side, but it is still going to make it difficult to pick up your jig near the bottom!

I bought my Ice 45 last year and used it the entire ice fishing season. I have no problem reading my jig whatsoever, although I've only fished down to about 35'. One thing I read before ever trying it on the ice was to NOT use the support cable. If you're using the support cable, you should try taking it off as it can easily make your transducer hang at an angle, making it Much harder to see your jig.
I have an Ice 35 and would have times seeing my jig when it was just sitting still, but could see it when jigging. I was fishing in 20+ feet of water and no problems and as shallow as 5 feet in weeds.
I noticed once I took off my foam floater it helped alot. Without the float the transducer sits flat.
This past march I bought my Hb 35 was finally able to use it 2 weeks ago. I could see my jig well most of the time, but then it would light up like a Christmas tree, not just 1 area but the entire screen. after that it looked like a disco ball where all the colors were spinning in a circle. Once that was done, it would light up all green. Also my screen would go completely black. I could hear it running, i thought our group next to our shanty could hear it running, I had to tap lightly on it for the screen to turn back on. I even switched it to the demo mode, and the cut out was still happening. I had a full battery. It was very loud as well. Not to mention at times it would change from saying i was fishing in 6 fow to like 20 without me changing anything lol I called bass Pro from the ice and spoke with a manager. He said bring it back in and we will exchange it. I have the new one put together, but have not tried it yet. Keeping my fingers crossed though. Good luck and if the store where you purchased it from won't help you contact Hb I hear they have very good customer service, especially with the flashers as this is a new product line for them. Keep us posted!! Princes
Are you fishing in current? Usually even if your gain is cranked way up and in weeds, you'll see it, it's just hard and takes time to get used to. With that being said, how's the battery? Fully charged? Is your transducer shooting straight down? On a side note....I had a HB on my boat for about a week this summer. Couldn't get that thing to read bottom or when it did mark fish. I moved the transducer 3 times and even bought a battery to run totally separate for interference and it still didn't work with the motor turned off and the the other battery disconnected. Found out when I returned it that HB was having transducer problems so maybe that is your problem. If you can't mark your jig or a sinker and the battery is charged (use a test and find out), and your not fishing in current, something is wrong with that puppy IMHO.
