What's the max effective depth these things can read to? I'm wondering if I can use mine in over 60 FOW or am I just wasting battery charge? Thanks in advance!

Mine will pick up a 2 inch jigging spoon in 120 feet. I do have to crank the gain up but mine is an old unit from when they first came out and has never been worked on. For using small jigs in deep water I put a large Eco Friendly split above it and the sonar picks that up. I think they are made from tin and the same weight sinker is much larger than a lead one.

I found on Big Green that I needed to use the 8 degree transducer to see my jig beyond 60-70' down, but I could mark bottom with the 20 degree transducer down to 120 or so.

I fished Big Green last year for lakers. I could only see down to 80ft with my FL-8.

You need to send it into Vexilar to get it chipped to read down to 240'. Not that anybody would go that deep around here, but you never know. I know they fish some trout that deep in Superior. Just so your aware that when and if your fishing in deep water your standard 19 degree ducer your going to be having a wide cone. At that depth your will be picking up fish that are a long ways from your jig. You may want to consider going with a 9 or 12 degree ducer. Good luck. If you got any questions you can message me. Take care and tight lines.

I know they say they go that deep, but have any of you guys fished in 120ft of water and if so how high did you have to turn your gain up to see the bait. Our were you using big baits and how was the interference that deep. I have only fished to about 60ft, just curious.

I have used mine in 60ft of water fishing for walleye's, you just have to turn your gain up. It might be tough if your using a small lure, but I don't think you will be fishing bluegills that deep. One thing I ran into was the current on the body of water I was fishing actually moved my bait farther so it was not actually under my hole.

Deep setting x4 120 feet. You can get a bottom reading deeper but the lure has to go around the dial twice and you need to really crank up the gain. Plus you do not know the exact depth. For lakers it is not the best choice but it works. I use one.
