Any "remedies" for healing a torn pad on a dog? He tore it on hunting that icy snow we had and reopened it this weekend at a field trial. Need to get healed in three weeks for another trial. Any past experience/help is appreciated. I understand the obvious...see a vet. Thanks PntrRookie

GHE, Yes I have Pad Heal. It must be used outside. It has a VERY heavy "alcohol" smell and is pretty messy. I have heard it works well. Must use over and over to build up the healing and protective properties.

I used emt and wrapped it every application, so he would not lick it off. Then when I ran I did put a coating of "tuff skin" and then super glue. Worked well. No new open wounds, the original injury looked raw, but did NOT open up again!

Thanks for the congrats, it is nice to have that Championship monkey off my back. Now back to the regionals!

Thanks for the "help." Yes I use EMT gel and it really helps the healing process.

Actually he ran better with it taped up for our second brace. A bit more under control:) Produced 5 birds and placed third.

Rookie,

Doesn't look too bad. I would say just put some of that Emt gell or antiseptic spray on there to keep it from getting worse. Maybe try putting a bootie on that foot to let it heal and to keep your dog from licking it.

last fall 3 weeks before I was to go out west pheasant hunting my dog stepped on some metal or glass in a field and deeply cut the side of his pad. we had to give him antibiotics to keep him from getting an infection, Spray antiseptic spray on it 4-5 times a day and he wore a boot for 5 weeks, but he healed in time to go and he he did fine so you should be good to go on your trial.

Good luck,

Fd

Using a product like tuff-foot throughout the year really seems to help a lot. I ran my dogs in a running pen this last weekend and the new dog that I had bought that I hadn't been putting tuff-foot on was the only one to loose her pads.

EMT Gel a couple of times per day.

Make sure he/she can't lick it till it drys.

Should be good to go in a couple days.

Good Luck!
