I have a Model C1200 John Deere weed eater. it is gas powered and I believe made by Homelite. Anyway I just used it for the first time this year yesterday. It starts fine, but when running a while it bogs down and the string part doesnt have enough RPMs to cut the weeds/ trim grass.

I put a new spark plug in and that wsant the problem. any other suggetions? Fresh gas was out in it. as i run it out of gas in the fall.

Any ideas would be appraciated. Fish daily -- as soon as I get my lawn done!!

fishdaily,

I'm glad that solved the problem for you.

When it happened to me, it was at the end of a mowing season so I put it away and forgot about it all winter. Come the following spring, I took it out and remembered that it was running bad. After changing the plug & gas, disassembling it and not finding anything wrong, I finally went to take off the muffler as a last resort and discovered the screen totally plugged. I figured that had to be why it was bogging down.

Nothing better than putting in a clean screen and having the trimmer run just as good as when I bought it! I now clean it in the fall as part of my regular maintenance.

I had a boat motor that acted the same way. 1991 40 HP Mariner. Took it in to have serviced and they rebuilt the carbs. It ran no better after that and brought it back in again. They "discovered " the exhaust ports were carboned up and the motor could not expel the exhaust enough to run past fast idle rpm. I now run a little Sea-Foam with each tank and once a year run some Mercury engine cleaner through a tank of fuel, no issues since.

Baggs,

I cant thank you enough!! I would of never thought to look there and do that. I took the muffler apart and sure enough that screen was plugged on right where those three exhaust holes are. I scrubbed and soaked it in carb cleaner for a day and she runs like a top again.

money is kinda tight right now so I treasure the times when a little lake link advise can help a fella out!!

Thanks so much!!!!

Mine did this a couple of years ago. It was from restricted exhaust.

Check the muffler screen to see if it's clogged with carbon. If It's like my JD line trimmer, it has two screws that hold a small cover on the muffler. Under the cover is the screen.

If it's clogged, use a scraper or soak it in some solvent to clean it, re-install.
