Your Guide
The foundation of my passion for fishing "up north" started when my family operated a small resort on Blueberry Lake near the famous Chippewa Flowage in Sawyer County. Sight casting bluegills with Grandpa evolved into remote fly in trips for walleye into the wilds of Canada, and eventually working on Prince of Whales Island in Alaska. After attending college in Fayetteville, Arkansas, I decided to return to Hayward Wisconsin with a primary focus on fly fishing for musky.Water
Sawyer County is blessed with LOTS of water to choose from. The Wisconsin DNR has classified 11 unique sections of Musky infested rivers totaling 169 miles in this county alone! Most trips are done in the Chippewa, Flambeau, and Namekagon/St. Croix watersheds.
Fish
While Musky is the primary species of fish targeted on my trips, our rivers also support healthy populations of football proportioned smallmouth bass, northern pike, and walleye. Our smallmouth fishery is world class. So depending on conditions and time of year, it's best to put the big 10 weight down and fish what some consider the premier freshwater species to be targeted with the long rod. All Musky and smallmouth are catch and release only, but walleye and northern pike can be filleted for those so inclined.
Boats and Gear
The majority of my trips are done from a Clackacraft drift boat. These boats are extremely stable and comfortable to be in for a long day of fishing. I also have a two person Outcast inflatable raft, a great boat for low water and hard to get to areas. And for those not intimidated by big fish and casting open water, lake trips can be done from my 17' Lund Pro-V. All fly rods, reels, fly lines, tippet/leader material, and personally tied flies are provided. For those not inclined to fly fish but still looking for a great experience, I also provide traditional casting gear.Rates
All of my trips are custom suited for your needs. A typical two person full day drift boat river trip is $400 for fly fishing and/or conventional casting with a cash/check/Paypal deposit required to book a date in advance. Our fishing location will be determined by river conditions prior to the trip. Half day on the water fly casting instruction is also offered, this is lake fishing from the comfort of a spacious 20' pontoon boat - $100 per person.
