Three Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce
Three Lakes is a small community nestled amidst the 650,000-acre Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest, known for its crystal clear lakes, abundant fisheries, trophy deer and an array of wildlife species.
The community's greatest natural resource is the largest inland chain of lakes in the world, consisting of 28 interconnected lakes. The variety of lakes and channels within the chain provide sufficient space for water skiing, wake boarding and boating as well as canoeing and kayaking. Fishing for sport or a fish fry, the chain of lakes has a variety of species including muskies, northern pike, bass and panfish. The Nicolet side of the National Forest offers spectacular opportunities for bicycling, hiking, birding, photography, hunting, camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
FISHING
Three Lakes and the surrounding area offer some of the best fishing in the Northwoods! Musky, Walleye, and Northern Pike are numerous as are Bluegill, Crappie, Bass, Trout and Perch.
BIKING
The Three Eagle Trail is an 8.5-mile long pedestrian pathway with a ten foot wide crushed limestone surface. It begins in Three Lakes at the Don Burnside Park, and heads north up the old Chicago & Northwestern Rail right-of-way. It follows the rail grade for about 3.5 miles, then winds its way west through a beautiful landscape of woodlands and wetlands to a very quiet and remote area so be prepared. Water, a first aid kit, insect repellant and bike repair tools are recommended. The northern end of the trail follows Sundstein Road, on its way to Eagle River. There is a small parking area on Sundstein Road, adjacent to the trail.
The trail is an excellent way for the entire family to enjoy the northwoods while getting some fresh air and exercise. Motor vehicles are not allowed on the trail except for snowmobilers on the southern rail grade section during snowmobile season.
The Three Eagle Ski Trail begins on Highway 32/45 from a designated parking area about 3 miles north of the Three Lakes business district. Parking is available here as well as at the Sundstein Road end of the trail. The trail is groomed and includes a classic track as well as a "skate" lane. The trail is about 10 miles or 16 kilometers long going out and back.
GOLF
Big Stone Golf Club features a scenic 9 hole golf course, perfect for beginning and advanced golfers. Follow Highway 32 south for two miles to enjoy a round of golf, beverages and a bite to eat while overlooking beautiful Big Stone Lake. Carts are available and there are docking facilities for boaters looking for a cool drink or a relaxing game of golf.
HIKING
The Nicolet National Forest contains many excellent hiking trails. To explore the majestic beauty of the Northwoods try one of the following trails; Franklin Lake, Giant Pine, Spectacle Lake/Kentuck Lake, Luna-White Deer, Sevenmile Lake, or the Sam Campbell Memorial Hiking Trail. HUNTING
In the fall, Three Lakes has great duck and grouse hunting. November brings whitetail deer and bear hunting. Various hunting seasons draw people from all over to experience the Northwoods and the Nicolet National Forest camps.
Three Lakes offers some of the best snowmobiling in the state! With 86 miles of state-funded trails plus 54 more miles of locally funded trails, every day is sure to bring you a new adventure! Our trail system traverses some of the most scenic country Wisconsin has to offer, from the pristine Nicolet National Forest, to the beauty of our chain of 28 interconnected lakes stretching from Three Lakes northward to Eagle River. WATER SPORTS
Three Lakes is best known for being home to the largest inland chain of freshwater lakes in the world. Boaters have access to 20 lakes covering 7,626 acres. Eight more lakes, the Eagle River chain of lakes, can be accessed via the Burnt Rollways Boat Hoist. Our lakes provide the perfect place for skiing, wakeboarding and boating.
