The Woodlands Resort

Vilas County Cabins (Woodlands Resort) is located on the North shore of beautiful Plum Lake in Sayner, WI. The resort features one of the best beaches in northern Wisconsin with over 200 feet of sandy shoreline. Nestled in tall pines, the resort offers a quiet, relaxed atmosphere with cottages that have been completely modernized for comfort and convenience. Besides being a premium water sport area in the summer, the resort provides unrivaled opportunities for fishing, color gazing or hunting in the fall, and winter is a busy time for snowmobiling, ice fishing, and skiing.

Kayaking

Discover all the nooks, bays, and islands around Plum Lake, or find Star Creek and explore the neighboring Star Lake. Three one-person and one two-person kayaks, paddles and life jackets included, are available for rent. Set out on your adventure right from our sandy beach. The Woodlands is one of the only resorts on Plum Lake with a beach level with the cabins...no stairs!

Beaching, Swimming, & Boating

Lay out in the summer sun or enjoy a swim in the crystal clear water out to the Woodlands raft. If you'd prefer to just dip your toes in from the pier or wade around at waist level, we've also got you covered. Each cabin comes with a rowboat and gas-powered motors are optionally available for rent. You can bring your own boat and launch from the public boat landing down the street. Life jackets are available for kids, but we recommend bringing your own if possible.

Fishing

With abundant Walleye, Muskie, Northern Pike, Bass, Perch, Crappie, Bluegill, & more, Plum Lake offers some of the best fishing in Northern Wisconsin year-round. There's over 1,200 acres of water and a 57' max depth, so you'll be sure to find some good fishing spots. We also have an outdoor "fish house" with a sink and countertop where you can clean your day's catch.

Campfire

Enjoy a campfire right on the beach with a beautiful sunset and relaxing tide in the background. We provide the fire pit and chairs, and firewood is available for purchase. So you can make the most of your night, each cabin is also equipped with marshmallow skewers.

Snowmobiling

The resort is located in the heart of the Vilas County snowmobile trail, which goes across Plum Lake and is easily accessible from the beach. Local snowmobile clubs groom the trails nightly so you can enjoy a smooth riding experience through the great northwoods.
