About Your Guide Hi, I'm Phillips Wi. area Fishing Guide John Carlson, I grew up on the shores of the Phillips Chain of lakes and have been guiding for over 15 years. The species of fish that I guide for are Musky, Walleye, Crappie, Bluegill, Perch, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, and Largemouth Bass. My favorite fish to catch are spring and summer Smallmouth and Topwater and late fall Musky. My season runs from opening day of fishing thru ice up and then I offer Ice fishing trips when the Ice is safe thru early March or ice out.

Your Trip When fishing with me I expect you to learn, I want to make sure that you get your monies worth out of even the worst fishing conditions. I will explain to you the areas that we fish and show you what equipment to use and how to catch them. Owning the local bait and tackle store I keep up on the latest lures. techniques and equipment.

If needed I supply the rods, reels and tackle for the day, If we're using spinning equipment you will be fishing with a FigRig or Deep South rod with a Shimano reel, If Musky is what we're targeting we will be fishing with FigRig Tooth Tamer rods and Shimano Curado reels. I have all the areas top producing lures in the boat and will even bring the live bait if needed. If you book me for an Ice fishing trip I usually target panfish, walleye or pike. I have 3 Frabill shelters, 3 vexilar flashers, and enough rods and tip-ups for 4 fishermen.

When fishing open water we will be fishing out of my '05 Alumacraft Navigator 185C, powered by a 150 Evinrude. Loaded with a bow mount minnkota trolling motor with a remote so my Clients can have the front of the boat, Vexilar flasher on the front and a Lowrance GPS/Depthfinder combo unit on the console with mapping programs. The boat is very wide and stable so I welcome handicapped fishermen. I also welcome Parents and up to 2 children, I enjoy putting the kids on fish and giving the parents a break from the tangled lines and tying on hooks.

I fish most Price County area waters including the Phillips Chain (Long, Duroy, Wilson, and Elk), Soo Lake, Solberg Lake, Cranberry Lake, Butternut Lake, Pike and Round Chain, Dairyland Flowage, and the Flambeau River.

Ross's Sport Shop The Carlson family purchased Ross's Sport Shop from Ross Petersen on October 1st 1992. We offer a full line of fishing tackle including Shimano rods and reels, Fig Rig rods, Eagle electronics, Fenwick rods, line winding, live bait including minnows, crawlers, worms, and waxies. Ross's has a full service Archery Pro Shop. We offer Mathews and Parker bows, and custom fletched arrows. We also offer Firearms, ammo and Leupold, Nikon, and Bushnell optics. Ross's also is a DNR Service Center, We can sell you almost any Fishing or Game license or replacement license resident or nonresident. We pretty much do it all.
