Devils Lake, ND
Welcome to Devils Lake North Dakota Tourism! Devils Lake is the largest natural body of water in North Dakota. Covering more than 163,000 acres it has hundreds of miles of shoreline. This very fertile prairie lake grows large numbers of Walleye, Northern Pike, White Bass, it has earned the reputation of being the "Perch Capital of the World" and has been ranked as one of the top five fishing lakes in the US. Perch weighing more than two pounds are caught quite frequently. In the fall hundreds of thousands of waterfowl migrate through the area and give both local and visiting hunters outstanding hunting opportunities. Devils Lake derives its name from the Native American name Miniwaukan ("Spirit Water"). Early explorers incorrectly translated the word to mean "Bad Spirit" and bolstered by the many legends of drowned warriors and lake monsters. The name evolved into Devils Lake.

The Water Calls You.

North Dakota's largest natural lake is for any age, any skill, or any season when it comes to fishing Cast a line off the shores of one of the bays alone or with your family as the azure of day melds into the rosy clouds of evening. Venture onto the lake with your own boat or troll for the "big one" from a rented boat or pontoon. Witness the water reflect the sun's first golden rays or feel the soft breezes graze your face. Perhaps you'll choose the intrigue of fishing two feet or more about the ice. Know the satisfaction of pulling up a jumbo perch or a northern pike. Whether you're an old hand with fishing or new to the game, let the local licensed guides lead you to the hidden treasures of the lake. All you have to do is show up. They supply the boat/transportation, the tackle, and the techniques to help you find that trophy white bass or that whopper walleye. The catching is up to you.

Take a Drive.

The Lake Region is full of breathtaking views, uninhabited land, extraordinary wildlife, country charm, rich culture and history, and an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. Take a drive around the lake, and our area to experience a drive of a lifetime. Wildlife Refuges Along Highway 57 you will find Sullys Hill, a national wildlife preserve offering a view of everything from buffalo to birds. There are also many other preserves along Highway 2 that offer you the chance to experience hundreds of different species of birds. Culture The area is full of culture! History can be found at the Fort Totten Historic Site along Highway 57 and also found in the town of Devils Lake. Stop by the Visitor Center to pick up a walking tour brochure or stop by the Heritage Center to gaze at our history. Gaming If you are into gambling, we have one of the best casinos in North Dakota. What can't be topped by any other casino is the view it offers. It is nestled right along the lake, and offers a top-notch marina. Food Stop for a cold beverage or dinner at the Cove, located right on Creel Bay. Sit outside along the lake for fresh air or inside next to the window. Fishing You don't need a boat to fish Devils Lake. The lake offers many different areas to safely shore fish, and still catch your limit!

Gear Up For The Hunt.

The land has as much to offer as the lake. Literally a hunter's paradise, both water and upland game are plentiful in this central flyway for fowl. Within minutes you will come across ducks, geese, grouse, partridge and even a few pheasant. Perhaps it's venison you're seeking. Archery hunting for deer is excellent, thanks to abundance of deer, varied terrain and excellent cover. For many of those same reasons, rifle deer hunting also yields excellent results. Camo up against the chill of an early fall morning, find your spot, and fill your limit by noon.
