You'll Fall in Love with Cheboygan! Cheboygan truly is The Gateway to the Waterways. Our deep water harbor opens to the Straits of Mackinac and we're situated at the headwaters of the Inland Waterway that links us by huge inland lakes and rivers with most of far northern Michigan.

The Inland Waterway is one of the true wonders of the Great Up North. Starting in Cheboygan, the route begins by going up the Cheboygan River and into Mullett Lake. From here, venture into the Indian River and into Burt Lake. Next, enter the Crooked River and Crooked Lake. At the end of the route you will be at the west end of the lake and will have traversed approximately 40 miles. Located on Lake Huron on the Straits of Mackinac, Cheboygan is considered a boater's paradise. Not only does it mark the beginning of the scenic Inland Waterway, it also offers quick access to other nearby destinations, including Bois Blanc Island, Mackinac Island, Les Cheneaux Islands and the North Channel.

When it comes to trail systems, we don't take a back seat to any place in America. The renowned North Central State Trail and the newly completed North Eastern State Trail are known as premier bicycle destinations and during the winter our trails are transformed into finest snowmobile routes anywhere in the north country.

Our All Terrain routes and destinations like Black Mountain State Recreation Area beckon the four wheel and two wheel adventurers like no where else in Michigan.

If you're passionate about fishing, an outdoor paradise awaits you in the Cheboygan area.

No matter what fresh water sport fishing is your favorite, we have it here... walleye, bass, perch, steelhead, trout and salmon. The wondrous inland lakes of Mullet, Burt and Black are right on our door step, all accessible via the magnificent Inland Waterway. And there's even great fishing right on the Cheboygan River in downtown!

Hunters from around the region know our deep woods and logging trails. There's grouse, turkey, woodcock and more for the upland hunting enthusiast. Whitetail bucks with record setting racks run through our forests.

There are all kinds of unique attractions for the whole family to enjoy in Cheboygan. We're the home port for the Coast Guard Icebreaker Cutter Mackinaw. The historic Opera House in down Cheboygan hosts performances year-round. The World Championship Wanigan Race takes place as part of our annual Waterways Festival in July and highlights the importance of the Cheboygan River and our logging heritage.

Don't forget to check out the Cheboygan Brewing Company! Opened in the spring of 2011, the Cheboygan Brewing Company features a taproom and a display of the history of brewing in the Cheboygan area. The company has resurrected an historic brewery label from over 100 years ago and the brewery is fast becoming a true destination for visitors and their beers have garnered rave reviews across northern Michigan!
