The reasons are listed below. The lake will start filling no sooner then April 10th. It's expected to be normal by end of May. Unless we get a down pour of course
Was at the Cove on Saturday night and it still looked very low.
Any sign of the lake returning to normal depth. It was lowered to a depth probably 4’ below normal. Don’t know a reason they would do that. It would be interesting to know the real reason the lake was lowered.
Guys on the ice yesterday, be safe out there.
Returned to Mason Lake to check the ramp onto the lake at the park. It was completely snow covered and full of snow. Dangerous drive onto the lake. Met a Man and Son from Indiana that were there to fish, and they ended up walking out, but lots of snow to deal with. Wish them luck.
Fishing time, be careful if you try Neenah as this is a spring fed lake and you never know where those springs pop up. I've had wet legs several times. Also, the water is flowing, so thickness changes everywhere.
Fishin time, I would avoid Mason at all costs if you're looking to tip up fish, there are very, and I mean very few pike in the lake, and the bass numbers have decreased in a big way, a better option for tip up action would be the big slough, parker lake, or neenah lake in oxford. There are plenty of northerns in those three bodies of water, Mason would be a huge waste of your time.
I’m planning on taking a few new guys out to introduce them to ice fishing on Saturday. Any areas to stay away from? I’m not too familiar with this lake. I plan on setting tip ups and letting them chase flags. And info is appreciated!
Thanks for the info Prop!
There was few 4 wheelers out. I didn't take mine. Long as you don't cross the channel would imagine be ok. I caught a few didn't have much time to fish. Wasn't whole lot of fun walking though either.
I won't be up this weekend for the fisheree.
