The fishing is good all across Vilas County as many, many people are reporting. These fisherman enjoyed there day today catching a lot of fish. There smiles speak for them selves.

We caught 1/2 our fish on plastics and 1/2 on live bait. This family is a pleasure to work with, very polite, hard working and supporting Vilas County WI. Tomorrow we will be fishing my home lake and the day after.

Stay positive, think clearly and do not listen to negative talk and do not listen to negative people. (No fish no pay) Guaranteed.

God Bless

More fantastic clients enjoying Vilas County Wisconsin.

These 2 people were great to work with always smiling and laughing. The bite was hard hitting. Plastics were best for us although, minnows are becoming important as some fish move away from the Shore Line.

Part of our new presentation is involving new color from our casting color to the shore line.

Stay positive, think clearly and do not listen to negative talk and do not listen to negative people. (No fish no pay) Guaranteed.

The regular spots were the dead sea.   Found 2 smaller structural areas to concentrate on and ended up with 5 walleye from 830-11 off 1 of the areas.

Here are a few with a 25.5" being the biggest.   All fish CPR'd.

Late May cold front put the brakes on the area fishing this past weekend.  Temps into the low 30’s with frost warnings can do that.  Fishing that was great for many anglers Wed/Thur took a turn by Sat/Sun.   Good news is warm weather already coming back.

Bluegill:  Very Good-Fair – Gills flocked into shallows, but pulled out with cold.  Best on small leeches, worms, Mini-Mites and waxies.   Gills moved back out to 4-6’ depth with chill, but expect to find them back in shallows by mid-week.

Smallmouth Bass:  Very Good-Fair – Bedding starting on some lakes.  Where committed, males guarding nest hitting 3 & 4” Wacky Worms and Ned Rigs as well as muds and large – XL leeches.   Others still at staging hitting lipless cranks and X-Raps.

Yellow Perch:  Good-Fair – Schools of Perch were being found in relatively shallow water (3-6’) taking thunderbugs, medium leeches and medium fatheads until cold broke up schools and pushed them out.  Check shallows again as water warms.

Largemouth Bass:  Good-Fair – Slowed with cold.  Prior to, fish warming shallows using floating Rapalas, TRD Ticklers and 3” swim baits on light jig heads.

Northern Pike:  Good-Fair – Bite best on live chubs or suckers as fish got neutral.  Some action on 4” swim baits.

Walleye:  Fair – Colder temps slowed weed bite.  Leeches best in 8-12’ cabbage over weekend.  Prior to, same fish in 3-5’ cabbage.

Crappie:  Good-Fair – Spawn over.  Anglers were finding some shallow males in places, but gone by weekend.  Use minnows when bite tough.  Back to swimming small jigs with tails as water warms.

Musky:  Fair After such a great opening weekend, time for these fish to rest a little I guess.   Not as much action, but still some high 30” to low 40” fish reported on wizards and small twitch baits.

Big, fast storm blew in mid-day (6/1) followed by warmer air.   Surface temps that fell 10-12 degrees over weekend should start to get back into the low/mid 70’s from the low 60’s they fell to.

Smallmouth Bass will be going strong this weekend.  Remember to let these fighters go – besides season doesn’t open until the 20th!

I will be visiting family in Wausau next weekend and have one day to hit a lake in Vilas county. I have a 19’ deep V so I’m looking for a lake with an adequate launch and decent fishing for walleyes and smallmouth. Not asking for any hot spots that’s just part of the adventure I like. But they’re a thousand lakes to choose from. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Late report from Memorial Day Weekend as I thought I'd posted but apparently didn't. Started out the trip by being disappointed the old railroad bridge had been replaced. That was always how I knew we were getting really close lol. After that terrible disappointment, we had a GREAT stay at Serenity Bay Resort on Little St. Germain. I forgot how nice it is to dock your boat and be less than 100 feet from it lol. 51 fish total for the weekend, with 8 keeper crappies around 10" and one bluegill. First time I fished plastics almost exclusively and was impressed. Crappie scrubs and mini mites under bobbers. Got a few on minnows too, but plastics were much easier. My daughter had fun just fishing off the dock, and was actually up at 6:45 on our first full day there and down trying for gills before I was even out of bed lol. Fantastic weather all weekend, although fishing was definitely slower on Sunday which was the nicest day. Did dinner (sandwiches from Knockers...fantastic!) on the boat Sunday night before pulling it to load up, which was a great dinner venue. Aside from the fishing which was better than my wife and daughter have experienced in a while...or ever lol...the highlight of the trip was buying $5 worth of pull tabs on our way out of bar/grill on Saturday night, giving one each to my daughter and wife and having the wife win the high prize of $250! Funniest was when I noticed a boat that had been delivered to the resort for a rental was listing hard to one side and was full of water. Mentioned it to the grounds guy there and he ran over and found whoever delivered it never put the plug in! Thankfully the water at the dock is less than 2' deep. Pic was after a few minutes of the bilge pump running.

Enjoyed the trip so much (not surprisingly) that we looked at finding something for another trip this summer and were lucky enough to find a place at Wittig's Point Resort on Fishtrap Lake for 6/27-7/4! Getting all kinds of excited for this trip now. If anyone has any info to share on Fishtrap and/or High Lake, feel free to PM me. Thanks!
