Jaegerjohnson ....I would go on the west side of petenwell off the 4th street lookout...the area known as yellow banks...you can fish off of shore...plenty of channel cats

Does anyone know a good place to fish for some catfish either flathead or channels around the Petenwell? I don’t have access to a boat and would really like to get on some kitty’s. I haven’t caught many of them and would really like to get on a few. As long as the spot is on the bank I can work with anything.

Thanks for the info. Will give it a try in the up coming days. If nothing else it's always entertaining to learn a new way to catch fish. Stay safe

Hothead: I'm no expert but trolling speed is critical. The water is still relatively cool so I'll start at about 1.1mph. If I'm not getting hit I'll speed it up a little at a time. I have gone as fast as 2.4 mph. A trick people do use: keep turning, left to right (serpentine). Boards on inside of turn will be slower and conversely boards on outside of turn will be going faster. If you get hit on one side or the other the fish are telling you to go faster or slower. Good luck.

About what speed do you do for trolling? Trying to learn a new way of fishing.

Viargokid. Looks like you were fishing out of a pontoon? What length was it and where did you launch from?

I had a couple good days on "Pete" Tuesday, and Wednesday. Tuesday I tried four spots on the channel edges from Monroe to Longview with live bait very little action. Put the boards and cranks in and game on. I had 2 "keepers" at 19 1/2, and 19 3/4 inches, a bunch of "shorties", and small white bass. Water temp was 71. Wednesday I started out south with live bait again and only a couple bites. Water temp near the dike was 61.2. Headed back to the north end and put the cranks in again and in an hour and a half I boated 5 "keepers", 2 in the slot, had 4 more nice fish come unbuttoned at the net. Still a lot of "shorties", and small whites. Water temp there was 72.

Keep a tight line!!!

Fished Friday/Saturday Memorial Day weekend working the shallows and river bed. Boated quite a few shorts and a few keepers, one 24.5” slot. Brother caught a couple of nice smallies casting towards the shoreline as well. Great weekend of fishing.

I’ve only fished this area in middle summer and had luck on walleye, cats, and white bass jigging around brush deeper than 12’ and trolling cranks. Could anybody give me some insight if that is how it is in cooler water or should they be shallower? Also is trolling cranks going on or is it a little cold yet? Thanks in advance.
