Kinda nice being the only boat on the river this morning. The weather was less than favorable but the fish didn't seem to care. Only fished a couple hours by myself. Jerk baits and jigs with minnows or plastics. Fish were pretty shallow. Everything less than 10 fow. Everything was released today. The crappies in the picture were on a double while jigging with a dead stick. Water temp was 59 degrees.

41° - 45° F
We will give that a go, for sure!
The shore fishing has been better than expected already this AM.
2 drum, 2 nice cats, 2 small walleye, a nice white bass, and a big carp!
Crawlers off the bottom.
Petenwell is on ?? today!
Can’t wait to get the kiddos out when the wind dies down a bit.
Good luck to everyone and anyone out fishing today.
I appreciate the comments and feedback. Haven't fished the system in a while and typically focused in march and april when I did. Looking forward to spending some time there as a good friend of mine lives close by.
Hit the drop off along the bouy line on the southeast end. (I believe the bouys are gone now, though.) Really isn't a bad spot. Just keep moving until you hit fish. They are there. Jigs and minnows or crawlers.
The fam and I decided to swing up to rent a place on the water for a few days just to get out of the house and enjoy the life before winter.
We are staying over on the east side of the lake, by Blackhawk Ave & County Rd Z.
I have my 3 and 5 yr old boys with me. Where do you recommend we fish this week to catch numbers (white bass/walleyes/anything) for the kiddos?
Volume is important...need the boys to just get hits and stay excited (y’all know how it is).
Any advice would be awesome!
Nice 4 hours with Paul and his Dad, lot of small eyes and all the white bass you wanted but it was my first trip of the year with no slot fish. Water is still warm and there is a lot of bait for them to eat. We fished from 15 to 5 foot
Thomas is right a lot of the walleyes were spitting up minnows in the boat.
Slot is work great. Caught quite a few slots and one 28”. Bigger ones spit up small whitebass
I agree, the slot is working great. The problem guys are running into is that there is A LOT of food in the system right now. Half the walleyes we caught were spitting up minnows. One 13 inch walleye we caught yesterday had two minnows in his mouth plus the one we caught it on. The legals and slot fish are still there. Petenwell is a walleye making factory. Later this fall there will be more slots and legals caught and the same will happen again in the spring through early summer and then the same cycle will happen again late next summer into the fall where all the legals and slots seem to disappear. This happens every year when the young of the year get big enough to be a staple food source in the system.
The slot is working great. No need to change it.
