Long Lake

Glad some of my info on Loon helped in some way, that’s what we all are here for right? LOL. Anyway, about Long; only public launch for boats our size that I know of is Swany’s on the creek feeding Long (off of Wilson Rd.). Nice people, $10 weekdays, $15 holidays. They have an honor box and you can come and go as you please. The launch itself is a little rough. Launching isn’t a big issue (depending on water level that can be highly variable) but getting back on the trailer can be less than fun. Single lane for sure. Deep enough but narrow - their neighbors across the creek, not wide itself, have boats docked that need to be avoided making it tricky in a breeze. Also a small “yard” with like 8 or so trailer parking spots. Weekends fill up fast. Only other consideration - once you launch (you can only go left, toward the lake) you pass back under Wilson Rd. to get to the lake, so those water levels really matter as does the height of your boat’s windshields, etc. Not usually a problem but I did lose a stern light pole to the bridge one spring morning.

Mr. Mc Dave! You were a great help last year with your loon info. I was actually on here checking into Long Lake because I’ve never fished it. That being said, how’s the launch? My Smoker Craft is similar in size to your Lund. Also, is it 24hr with a drop box like many Chain Marinas?

Nice morning again on Long. I clearly haven’t been fishing this lake enough. I will remedy that this season. This AM (4:00-11:00) caught a half dozen and lost several more that were at least as big as the biggest ones I caught, which were 20” and 17” respectively(pics below). The 20 weighed 3.18 lbs and I didn't weight the 17 but estimate a couple of pounds. All fish still swimming as always. Variety of baits; popper early, Senkos wacky rigged (of course) when the sun was up. Also took a couple on a spinnerbait and one one a soft plastic swim bait and jig head. I like that northeast bay shoreline from 6” ​out to12’. Was using LiveScope but mostly for finding weed patches, only saw one fish I caught on the ‘scope before he was hooked. 

Shore fishing boat launch area from 6.00 am to 7.00 am today. Pike and walleye lures.No bites.

Think most if not all your questions were already answered in my previous post. We were bass fishing, not specifically targeting pike, so the 5-6 pike we caught were on bass baits; Rebel Pop-Rs and buzzbaits early, Senkos later with sun fully up. There is a picture of one in my post, they ran about the same size, except of course for the Muskie that’s in another picture. Muskie ate a Pop-R too. All our fish were released as always. Long can be tough to fish, especially from shore. We were fishing scattered weed clumps in 8-12 ft on the east and northeast shore flats. That’s about the best I can do.

Another real fun day on Long Lake Yesterday from 4:30-10:00 am. Started early, almost flat calm, but a fair amount of cloud cover, and the gamefish were chewing on the surface. Caught a Muskie, several Northern and a few big bass. Got my best bass in several years, a 20”, 4.8lb pre-spawn female on  carp-colored Senko. Lots of action shared with a good friend. Cant beat that.
