Fished on the 28th in company sponsored fishing tournament and placed second in the bass category. Fish was the first one I caught and was 16" with some solid girth. We fished in about 25' and moved shallower (due to rod limitations) when companions joined us. Should have stayed in the deeper water. Had a camera along and saw a wide range of fish. Sunnies, plenty of small perch, and many northern coming in for a look. Never saw another large bass or walleye. For the stocking listed on this site, you would think it would be a great walleye lake with the depth and forage available. It was fun, but I would have loved to catch a walleye or at least see one on the camera.

Chris...you must have lived on Upper a long time ago. I've lived on Phantom for 3 years now, and have caught a total of four (4) LM over 14" long. There are many undersized fish however. There is little cover in the lake, and overfishing is a problem. Wednesday night bass tournaments rarely have any of the boats fish upper, they all go to lower.

An earlier rating mentioned this lake as overfished - it isn't overfished, just misunderstood. I grew up on this lake and learned the areas and techniques to produce very nice size largemouth bass and bluegills. Abundance of northerns in the 22" - 30" size range, not big, but still fun to catch. Lots of 12" to 18" bass in this lake - some in the 20"+ range also. Suggest fishing the far west bay with a jointed floating rapala or a #3 or #4 Mepps spinner - you're sure to have a lot of action doing this early morning or at dusk. Lower Phantom produces the bigger fish, but you need to know how to deal with shallow, weedy waters.
