Ice over by us (Coadys' Point of View, SE end of North Twin) held up during the recent warm period.  Still 8" to 10" of solid ice and quite a bit of ATV use.  Of course, you always have to double check the risky spots.  Forecast for this weekend shows nothing above 29 degrees with lows in the teens.  Barely any snow right now and not anything of note in the forecast.  Good for ice, bad for trails.

Only a few more weekends for game fish - and we'll have to pull the shanty off soon - so don't wait!  We still have some great availability, so plan your trip soon!

Are they still driving UTVs out or is it just foot travel only?
Thank You

Little to no snow cover on area lakes. As of yesterday (1/30) the slushy top layer was frozen, that may change with the warm temps today as we are sitting at 40 and sunny as I type this. Photos of the Lakota Rd landing on North Twin from yesterday.

3" snow on the ground. All blacktop town roads down to bare pavement. Twins were sloppy Friday and Saturday, with mixed couple inches of snow, few drifts left over, and bare patches. Lots of spinning with the sled but no real mobility issues. Firmed up pretty nice overnight Saturday a lot less spinning Sunday. Still a few shallow water/slush pockets but again mobility was great. 10" of ice wherever I drilled on both North and South as of Sunday.

Looking at coming up this weekend and was wondering how much snow is on the ground and what the lake conditions/ice looks like.

Thanks
Mark

POV Ice Thickness Update:  I just went out and drilled four holes in front of POV on North Twin Lake.  All were in the 6" to 7" range of solid, good ice.  Snow cover is about 3" or so.  Please note I ONLY checked out right in front of us.  Forecast shows some REALLY cold temps coming up and not a whole lot of snow, so it should get much thicker rather quickly.  WE DO STILL HAVE A BIT OF AVAILABILITY for the next few weekends, but it's unlikely to last long -- you can book directly through our website.  Our guests have said they are catching some nice fish, but fishing is fishing and it's been slow at times.  I think the general consensus about snowmobiles is that the trails might not open until February, but it's hard to predict.  Depending on your risk tolerance, and as long as you know where to risky spots are to avoid, travel should be fine off our boat launch starting this weekend.  Cheers, DPC

Hi all - guests are reporting consistently 6" ice between POV Resort's shore and the island. Barely any snow and solid ice with very little pockets. So that's somethin. Still avoid going near the shoreline and the island pinch point. Around the corner towards South Twin Lake they measured between 4.5" and 7". Wouldn't recommend UTVs or snowmobiles for another week or so to be on the safe side.

As always - be cautions and tight lines!

I was up last Sunday, i have a cottage mid lake,  the lake was frozen over but from my shoreline there was about 3 feet of open water before you got to the ice, so i am going to assume that the ice was pretty thin mid lake unless you got to either end.  I have heard from the local baitshops that there is 5 inches in some places but i did not get on the ice so i cannot verify one way or another.   I could not see any one on the ice last weekend mid lake.

Your probably right.  But I have seen 10 inches of ice go away in one night.  No snow! High wind! Melting  ice.  Water moving on top of ice will eat through 10 inches of ice.  I have seen it.  Be very careful..   Thank You.
