If you're camping at Franklin lake, fishing at this small lake is a must! I don't know why it's called sunfish lake, because the only fish I saw were perch and bass. The water clarity was about 4 or 5 feet and from the shore the lake very gradually and uniformly gets deeper with no steep drop offs or humps. The bottom content is mostly muck with some small sections of shoreline holding gravel and small rocks. The vegetation was minimal with isolated patches of both emergent and submerged weeds. I carried my kayak just under half a mile down the hiking trail to this lake and fished it for about four hours. Despite the overcast conditions I still managed to catch a bunch of small perch and a handful of bass including a very chunky 19 incher and a huge 21 incher. All the fish were released and if you choose to visit this awesome lake it's important that you release your fish too in order to maintain the great fishery in this small body of water. If you want to fish here you should bring baits that imitate perch to catch bass and whatever you normally panfish with for the perch. Good luck!
