Kettle Moraine Lake

The reports about the private ramp is true but it has been worst. It true other boaters won't cut you any slack to respect your rights. Its true boaters push the "No Wake Limits Times" by the local cottage owners far beyound the times listed at the landing. Haven't seen the local boat cop on this lake in resent years, it seems they spend alot of time on Long Lake. As for the fishing goes it a nice lake if fished early in the morning (5:00 a.m.) or just before the sun set. Plastic worms, Rapala's, Buzz Baits, Nightcrawlers all seem to work anytime, it's just a matter of changing up to what the fish want. Try this lake if you have small children, it was great when my boys were little. Fish safe and have some fun with this lake.

Fished all day today and caught 3 small pike and a 10 inch bass. This lake is way too weedy to fish effectively. Some idiot in a ski boat was running way to close to me. I can not recommended this lake. I have had much better luck Long and Auburn.

The launch at Franks is in need of repair, the dock is shaky. If you like to catch foot long snakes and 10 inch bass they are sometimes there. As soon as the boats zip bye or jet skis rip up a froth the fish hide. Lots of shooting and a shower of shot if you get too close to the numerous hunters. Also remember the herbicides stay in the fish for the long term!(I heard $60,000 worth throughout the lake)

Fantastic lake to take a kid fishing, or a first time fisherman. I took my 12 year old daughter fishing here for her first fishing trip. this was an overcast day with strong North winds and a low pressure system that caused white caps on the lake. With this kind of weather I didn't think we would catch a fish. We started drifting across the lake from North to South about noon. Her first cast produced a 15" LMB and her 3rd cast landed her a 28" Northern. All in all we caught 12 fish in 2 hours, on a bad day weather wise. No one else on the lake! You can launch for $6.00 by Frank's Tavern on HWY F North East side of the lake. The launch itself is nice and can accommodate larger boats (18'and Pontoon) but the pier is in poor condition.

$5-$6 launch fee with a below average facility as far as ramp, dock and parking go, but still serviceable. Worth the fee for catch and release Bass fisherman as this lake is full of them. Nice ones too. Clear and shallow with an average depth of about 5'-7' with max being about 25'. This lake used to be choked with milfoil which gave the Bass a great environment to grow Big. In recent years they have been spraying in early spring to kill off some of the weeds so if you are looking for a meal this is probably not a good choice as there are advisories posted at this time and you shouldn't be eating Bass anyway. In summer recreation is moderate, but because of the size of the lake it doesn't take much recreation to turn the fish off. The clear water forces fishing on cloudy days or low light periods. The lake is unusually tough in the spring but in June you can catch a limit of keeps on a "bad" day. When it's windy (15-25 mph) fish the windy side of the lake on the deep (10'-12') weedline casting a jig'n'pig into the wind to the deeper water and swimming it back to the weed edge using a jerk-jerk-pause retrieve. Deadly! On normal (5-15 mph) days use plastics and jigs on the deep edge and in pockets with a lift and drop. Work into the wind for boat control. 3-5 pound Bass are common and if you hit it right you can find yourself in the middle of a frenzy of 5+ pounders. Spinnerbaits also work well at times. There are 3 rocky points that always hold Bass but they tend to be smaller. On a slow day you gotta take what you can get though. There are a "couple" stray Walleyes that are over 20" and a few BIG Northerns, but expect to catch a lot of small "snakes" also. Some big Panfish here too, but they (big ones) are hard to find and with the advisory probably not worth your time. Overall top notch lake for a small lake for "catch and release" Bass fisherman. If your into something else there are better lakes out there.
