There's potential for a world record muskie, the small mouth are huge, the walleye are plentyful and its a great lake for cat fish. If you don't know the lake spend time on The Little Lake.

This is a great fishery. i personally boat 40-55 muskies per year and i have no problem finding good walleyes on the lake between 16-26 inches. Winter is great for cappies between 10-14 inches.

To use a baseball analogy...with Wissota, you're going to hit a grand slam or you're going to strike out. Good, multi-fish days are rare but the potential for a trophy [musky] is there. I believe that Wissota is NOT a trophy walleye fishery...some would disagree. The panfish and bass fishing I could take or leave. Good luck!

Great Muskie lake as well as walleye lake. Dark water, lots of skies with good size
- Derrick Broeckel from Antigo, Wisconsin
This lake is quite large, but way too much boat traffic during the weekends. There are some great walleye to be had. The DNR really should restrict the jet ski traffic..I think they intrude on the asthetic quality of the lake.

Dark water lake hard to fish. Don't waste your time on the weekend this is a major recreational lake. During the week it can spit a numbers of 30-40inch Musky!

MY FAMILY AND I JUST RETURNED FROM LAKE WISSOTA WITH GREAT FISHING ADVENTURES. FIRST OFF I CAUGHT AND RELEASED MY FIRST EVER MUSKIE!!!! IT WAS 38 INCHES OF CLEAR BEAUTY. THE FIGHT WAS BREATH-TAKEN U SHOULD SEE THE PICTURES. MY SECOND FISH WAS MY VERY FIRST SMALLIE THAT WAS 18" AND ABOUT 3-4 POUNDS. HE WAS A PORKER. ANOTHER VICIOUS FIGHT. MY DAUGHTER ALSO CAUGHT HER FIRST FISH EVER. SHE CAUGHT TWO WALLEYES ONE 13" AND THE OTHER I THINK 10". MY BROTHER CAUGHT A PIKE ABOUT 27" AND MY COUSIN CAUGHT A CHANNEL CAT ABOUT 32" AND WEIGHING AROUND 14 POUNDS. WE ALSO CAUGHT PERCH AND BLUE GILLS. EXCELLENT CAMPING AND EXCELLENT FISHING.

I put in a lot of time in the boat on Wissota this past year fishing muskies, averaging approx. 20-30 hrs every week. What I caught was a lot of little northerns, and only a couple muskies. One of the muskies caught on the Yellow River bar was 44" and about 22-25 lbs. Other than that fish I caught only 1 other small muskie on the Yellow River Bar the entire year. and I put a fair amount of time on it. Although I was not at all impressed with muskie fishing on Wissota, I did have 1 huge fish on that straightened out my leader. I had just finished sharpening my hooks on a hot bait after missing a nice northern. I set the hook on this big muskie 3 times, and the 3rd time I put too much into it, and straightened out the leader. The fish came out of the water about 40 ft from the boat, and I estimate it was in the 50-60" range.

I used to guide on Wissota, it is a great lake if you have the time to fish it Monday thrugh Thursday, aside from that, the recreational boat trafic is too high to produce a quality catch per unit effort rating.
