Over harvesting small gills for years has hurt this lake. Not sure what so many people do with 6" and smaller gills. Still great lake especially Bass. Can't imagine thinking the carp removal is what hurt the lake. Fish need weeds they should have removed the carp 15 years ago before they got so out of control.

So sad to report that since they have started netting the carp and over sprayed for weeds; the quality went from always catching fish to zero fish caught. Breaks my heart as I have fished this lake for the last 40 years.??

My father bought a camper at Mason Lake Campground in 1978 which he has handed down to the family. I have raised my kids and grandkids fishing on Mason Lake and it has always been phenomenal fishing; even when the lake had many many weeds. The lake started the very noticeable decline about 4 years ago around the time when they started netting for shad and carp. It is very disheartening to see the decline of beloved Mason Lake. Hopefully the DNR will take this seriously and do something to help. Sincerely, Mona Thornton
