Nice day for crappie. The day started out slow. At 10am they started hitting. My friend and I had 25 in about 90 minutes. All keepers about 8 inches.
All this was on Thur May17
Fished for 3 hours this morning ended up with one crappie and one catfish then went to Browntown and ended up catching a nice mixed bag of crappie and bluegill this place is a Dead Sea
My wife and I were primarily fishing for bluegills when she got quite a thrill. It was like trying to lift a bumper from a 1969 Pontiac off the bottom. The fish put up a pretty long fight and whenever she got it close to the boat it would go straight down to the bottom of the lake again. We're using ultralight open face spin cast reels on 8 1/2 foot fly rods and 4# test line. Her walleye measured 18 1/2" so it had to be returned to the lake. We would have returned it regardless since that's not what we were after in the first place. She was grinning from ear to ear though from the experience. Now someone else can have a crack at him.
Fished the lake today. surface temp 64 trolled crankbait by the dam, had something big on for a few seconds before it bit off and said goodbye. Tried for crappies drifting with plastics, caught a female 20" walleye a quick picture and back in, later on got a nice 17" walleye that was a male fins beat up from spawning. Water was dirty from recent rains. Not a single crappie caught. Saddest thing was seeing a tiger or true musky by the boat rental dead along shore that was at least 48". The fish of a life time for most of us.
