I think he meant "gates". Although there are locks at the dam, I don't think they have been operable for a long time and are usually about four feet out of the water

What do you mean by locks?  Locks are used on the Mississippi river and not at a hydroelectric dam

I have never fished here, but would like to in the next few weeks. I do not have a boat, and looking for any suggestions of shore fishing locations. Primarily would like to fish for walleye and sauger but catching any fish is better than getting skunked! Any information would be greatly appreciated, please send me a message. I would just launch your kayak from the old VFW launch, stick to the right side of the river, and the current won’t be terrible.
