I fished here on3/11/2017. It was a tough bite for me. I felt like I forgot how to catch a walleye or sauger here only catching one 8 inch walleye in 2 hours of fishing. Here is my video of fishing but not catching
Just a quick update. River on it's way down. Still at 48,000 cfs today but will be in steady decline and then bump up a bit and then decline again going into Sunday the 5th. A lot of that will depend on this next weather system and how it tracks.
The river crested in Portage at 18.44 ft. Which put's it at number 10 in historical crests. If you look at the top 34 river crest's at Portage 32 of them have occurred since 1991. #2 on the list was in Sept. of 1938 and #3 was in March of 1973. #1 was in Sept. of 2010.
Climate change? Rat.
FYI for walleye warriors. Flow out of Sauk is over 20k CFS today. It's only going to go up from here. River is predicted to be in moderate flood stage Thursday into Friday at Portage.
Shore fishing is severely limited once you get to the mid 20'K CFS. You can do it but it's not much fun. You will need wader's if you go
Fishing by boat starts to get sketchy at this flow also. By this weekend if the river rises like they predict fishing by boat would not be advised unless you're an experienced river rat.
Good luck and stay safe. No fish is worth your life. Maybe? Rat.

Fishing was slow. Few males being caught. Didn't see anyone catch any keepers. Did see about a 25 lb cat caught. Maybe 20 boats out. 3 gates open on the spillway.
Wardens were out checking Saturday and everyone was legal. Good job on everyone being so.
