Great map. Be careful and go slow. You can be a foot off at times and really ruin your day. Don't be like the self proclaimed "pro guide" who took his lower out this past weekend.
The picture Eyemanic posted is about the perfect trail up. The best advice someone can give a new boat owner, is take it slow. Even an experience boater, changing boats, whether it be a bigger motor, column to tiller, or getting a longer boat, it just takes time to get use to it. With the river, anything and everything is out to get you. Go slow, and remember the river changes daily. I’ve dropped lower units thinking it was smooth sailing, and taking things for granted, that only costs money, and most of the time leaves you stranded.
Water is very low Look out --lots of rocks just under water. 38 degree water. bite is slow.. Better off goin to Lk. Wis. off Tipperary rd. steady action there but lots of shorts. You'll hav a chance to get used to boat there. some sand bars but their visable now. watch other fishermen. Good luck.

Looking to come fish the dam for the first time this weekend and get my new (to me) boat wet for the first time as well. I've fished walleye a lot but never in the river. Anything critical I should know about river fishing eyes or just cautions so I don't ruin the boat my first time out? Any advise is always appreciated and I will report after.
Best of luck,

Only managed 10 shorts yesterday using plastic. Close on the sauger but 1/16th short.. The spot lock was very busy keeping me positioned in that 15+ mph northeast wind. I think the wind drove me off the river, not the slow bite. Warmer days coming.
