Anyone getting walleye or smallmouth lately? Hoping to get out next week and looking for help on what kind of lures to use and what kind of areas to target. All catch and release. Thanks for any info.

Was able to get out walleye fishing on the Wisconsin River this past Sunday and with this warmer weather the walleye bite is starting to heat up. Walleye were heading up river and pre-staging in the deeper holes. With three people in the boat we were able to catch 40 walleyes in about four hours, with seven of them being legal. On a few of the females the spawn was starting to soften up, and none of the males were milting yet. What was working best was casting out a ¼ ounce chartreuse colored jig, tipped with either a chartreuse colored Kalins grub or fathead minnow, and slowly reeling it back to the boat. The last hour before dark was the best, but fish were caught all afternoon. This week and into next should be good walleye fishing on the Wisconsin River in north central WI.

I only fished the grandmother once and was not impressed, have fished Lake Alexander and the Grandfather alot. Lake Alexander does not have real great size for smallies but its not bad water. I have fished the Grandfather for about 15 years. The size and quanity of small mouth is unbelievable but it has slowly been going downhill. The grandfather is very dangerous if you do not know where you are going, lots of rocks that come close to the surface in as deep as 10 or 18 feet of water. Hope this helped you out.

Okay, thank you very much for the advise. I have a small aluminum V-bottom, it sits only about a foot deep in the water because it's pretty light... Any recommendations where I could fish in the Wisconsin River? either Oneida county or Marathon? I've heard great things about lake Alexander as well as the Grandfather and Grandmother Flowage areas too

What kind of boat are you planning to use is the first question. Don't even think about it unless you are using a Jon boat. Just speaking from experience. Also south winds won't do you any favors.
