Launch was manageable this morning. Went out from 8:30 am until 12:30. Not a bite. Thin ice covers about 60% of the lake.
MOON PHASE (18%)
Hit Wind Lake today as kind of a bonus last Kayak fishing trip for the year. Water was super clear, you can see how clear it was in the pic with the dock, any turnover must be over. Was kind of surprised on how clear the water was.
Didn't get skunked but fishing was really slow.
Only managed to get two small pike.
I tried many spots and depths and didn't mark any game fish even in deep water, don't know were they are. I went through one spot that the Garmin reported was 52 feet deep and I jigged there for awhile and the fish I marked were small, not much bigger than my bitsy bug jig with a white grub trailer, which I could see on the display. Tried along the weed edges in 12 to 14 feet and nothing. One pike was under a dock and the other was in about 4 feet of water to the north of the launch. I did get video of both fish and will post later. One of the pike had a badly damaged mouth kind of amazing it even survived whatever did that to it. I released both unharmed though the one with the damaged mouth did inhale the crankbait and it took some delicate work with the forceps to get the treble out without damaging it's gills.
There was quite a few people fishing launching bigger boats even without the launch, was kind of surprised at that.
Oh, almost forgot as I was leaving around 2pm or so a Sea Plane landed on the lake on the north side by that other private launch. Kind of cool, some guys were at the launch watching and commented they though it was illegal to land a plane on the lake? beats me.
I live close to Wind. I just drive by and shoot the breeze with fisher persons and duck hunters. Besides the lake get's enough pressure as it is. I have nothing to report and nothing to hide.
I just drove by and yes the public pier is indeed out. Seems kind of early IMO.
