The tater gets harder to fish this time of year because of the ice depth and how shallow the lake is.  I am not saying it is not worth a shot, but it is tougher.  Honestly the best places to fish are probably still where the permanent shanties are.  There are lots of other little lakes in the area that are good.  Another bigger lake that will keep you busy with flags is Noquebay, but I know they have a couple of derbys going on this weekend.

Hello,

Im heading up this weekend ice fishing with my family and we are staying at whispering pine lodge. I have never ice fished in the area and was looking for some pointers on where to start for pike and bass fishing. If anyone would be kind enough to share some information on white potato lake or other good tip up lakes in the area it would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to pm me :) thanks in advance!

The ice conditions were stellar last weekend.  No problem with any type of vehicle as cars were even getting out.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how is the ice up there after the heat wave? Too choppy to drive out, or did it smooth over? Thinking about coming up this weekend. Thanks

Out here with Mossy Horns. Caught one 11 3/4” perch.   Fish board is looking good at the derby though.   Nice size walleye, northern and perch.

Jan. 6th we were out from noon until 7:00. Not a single flag. We didn't see anyone catching fish. (tipups). On that day we had at least 12" of ice maybe more. Lots of trucks on the lake.

Side note........We did have a warm up this past week so I can't speak for the conditions as of today. Always be cautious.
