First I'd go get yourself a bike. I used to fish the point dam a lot when I was there got musky walleye smallmouth and crappies there. There are also fish in lake jonas but never fished there myself just took part in the fake net survey there. I'd put my time in on the river from the point dam (both sides) and start working south along the west side of the river. Also heard of people fishing the plover river but seemed to be just small bass. Just watched the video posted below. Exactly what I used to didn't have money for loosing cranckbaits (which happened to me a lot) mostly jigs and twisters or northland paddle tails.

To any high school kids interested in coming to UWSP, here is a video of some fishing within biking distance of campus. I was only able to film myself catching small-medium sized bass and northern but I've also caught some bigger bass, northern, and catfish in the same areas. This video was filmed i October.
