Didn't go out with my wife this time.....but instead with my long time partner of some fifteen years. Launched at 7:15 am under 51 degree windy and overcast conditions.(Wife would not have been happy with the conditions). Moved all over upper Mud and finally connected with the gills around 11:30 on the outer weed line about mid point North South adjacent to the hole. Anchored in 5 fow casting out to deeper water with slip bobbers set at 7' using ice jigs and TruTurn #12 gold hooks tipped with waxies. Used a slow retrieve and when our baits got close to the weed line the bull gills hit the waxies. Partner caught the biggest bluegill of this year measuring 11" nose to tail tip. Nine more total between the two of us measuring 10 to 8". Fished with our backs to the 15-20 mph north wind but I think it just added to the Fall fishing fun. Pulled anchor at one pm. Split the catch giving us and our spouses one nice meal each. Figure that 11" gill had to be at least 6 years old. Didn't think about it until on the way home but it should have been released for spawning next Spring. Anyone heard about pier removal dates? Coming out from Milwaukee would be helpful to know but will also check the DNR site. Tight lines.

Went out with my wife this past Friday afternoon at two under perfect conditions. Very light breeze, overcast and falling barometer. Spent two hours on the north end hunting for the gills and not a single bite. Headed to the south end at the drop off, anchored in 7 fow and worked the weed tops using slip bobbers and gold Tru turn hooks baited with waxies. Found the bull gills ten minutes before it started to sprinkle, managed to catch four 9" gills & three in the 7 1/2" size before my wife decided she was cold and getting wet. Had one good meal though and I was able to find them so I call that a successful outing. The hunt is what it's all about. Tight lines.

Last winter there was talk about Madison parks laying down a wooden path. It was said it would run from the parking lot down thru the marsh. Anyone know if this happened for the 2015/2016 ice fishing season?

Congratulations to the City of Monona. the renovated park is excellent. lots of parking, new shelter, and launch. like the fish cleaning station. let's help the city keep it clean and in good working order. note-the grinder was not functioning today. fishing was slow in the morning. all boats departed by noon. I decided to check out the weedy area in the center of the lake on my way back to the launch. dropped the line in the open areas and got alot of action. kept 11 gills, 8-9". worm chunks on a #6 aberdeen hook, slip bobber. tight lines.
