I'm heading over that way the 20th and 21st for some fishing. Looking for good northern action and possibly a spot to jig crappies. If anyone has some tips or suggested spots to fish it would be a great help. I've only fished the lake once before so I'm still in the exploring stage

The lake all seems to freeze pretty even. I've never had a problem with bad spots. Good panfish lake. The gills run a little small but they are numerous. The crappies are in a rebuilding cycle. They are also very plentiful and running a bit on the small side right now. In another couple years it should be good. The walleyes are pretty nice size just not a lot of them out there right now. There are some decent northerns, but I don't fish for them much. If you need some spots to get started on, Electronic Guide Service has great lake information. They have coordinates on many of the cribs for gills and crappies. As well as locations of rock bars for walleyes.

I know I'm jumping the gun here a bit but hey, Ive got the itch and my mind is consumed. Never been on thompson but would like to explore this winter. Just wondering what areas to be carefull of on hard water, do the bottle necks freeze ok, any springs to watch out for? I'll take any fishing tips yips as well but mostly just want safety tips. Thanks

I know this is a little of course but does any one have any information on hot rapids flowage? I cant find any info on lakelink, or any of my fishing maps, and just a little bit on the web. Is it a decent fishing lake? What kind of fish are in it? I see it's a flowage, is there many navigation hazards? How's the launch? What's the depth like? I have an 18 ft deep ft, is that too big for it? Any info would help. Thank you very much!

I was out last Saturday morning prefishing for the naifcc. (I've never been on this lake) Plenty of crappies in there just all we caught were small. Coming back up Thursday and Friday to try and find some bigger crappies and maybe into some gills over 5". If anyone wants to meet up or has some suggestions please send me a pm. Great area and I can't wait to get back up there, hopefully with the wheeler this weekend.

Mother Nature is helping out, making more safe ice with this sub zero weather.

The lakes are all covered now. Most have 2 to 3 inches near shore. But as you go out it really varies. Some areas have a double layer that has not froze down yet. So you have an inch over another inch. some areas just have an inch or less. Saturday should be better,  but you will need to check often as you move around.

Welcome NAIFC fishermen! Good luck on the finals!!

Electronic Guide Service can help out if you have any trouble finding the fish.
