Tainter is heavily green in many areas... of you are going to pull boards they get hung up in the slop and don't pull great. I'm still trying to figure this lake out... i can't find any crappie???
MOON PHASE (34%)
No reports since February? Does nobody fish this lake or is just kept quiet. I fish Menomin quite a bit but havent tried Tainter. Just wondering how the walleye bite is. Might come up and explore with pulling cranks and boards.

Spent the day on tainter. fished off elk point, first point to the south/east. Set up in about 12 ft of water. Marked fish pretty consistently but the bite was rough. Started out jiggin assorted spoons tipped with walleye minnows. Got thumped twice right off the bat but came up empty. Minnows drew the most attention hands down. I did jig with plastics as well as waxies. ended up with about 5 perch 1 or 2 were tweeners. (maybe 9-10inches) also set out a couple tip ups along the break. NO LOVE!! oh well i still love this lake, she just a fickle mistress in the winter for me.
stay safe and good fishin
Re: ice conditions on Tainter. I live on the lake near Elk Point. The contest was held and lots of trucks out. The ice is probably 15-17 inches. Stay away from the channel with the under current. Trucks driving all over it seems on that end of the lake by Elk POint. The slop froze back up with the below freezing temps lately. You will be fine with a 4 wheeler. The bite is much better this year it seems. Good luck.
Looking to try fishing Tainter for the first time, I fish it a lot in the summer/fall just not in the winter, spend most of my time on Menomin. I have a wheeler that I use to drive on ice.
Any information on the ice on Tainter would be appreciated, is it mostly uniform or are there areas I should look out for? I know there was a fishing contest there this week I haven't heard anything about it yet though.
