The dam in Albany has boards at the crest that are pulled in the fall; and put back in during spring. This raises water levels a foot or so and helps canoes navigate the shallow pond above. The boards were pulled dropping water levels, which is why you were seeing shallower water.

So here's a question for all the regulars who are active on the sugar river near Albany. I had been frequenting the Albany lake/Sugar River often during mid October....October 17 through October 31. Water levels were pretty good. I come back after October 31 and water levels are super low. Just mud flats with a stream or two where 1-3 ft of water used to be. What happened? Do they open the dam in Albany or Brodhead to drop water levels? Otherwise, I can't see how it got that low so fast. Thanks for the info in advance.

Hello Sugar River! This nice weather has me itching to at least get out and try out a new fly rod, maybe see if a northern will bother me this weekend.
Can anyone give any tips for where the Sugar is wadeable/fishable outside of the towns?
On that--where approximately does the 500 feet mark start below the Belleville Dam? The first bridge?

Was out today below Belleville. Waded from Remy bridge half way to the black bridge. This portion of the river doesn't seem to be anywhere near the same as what it was last year before they started dredging the lake. I'm hoping it will improve now that the lake is filled up again.
