WATER TEMP
71° - 75° F
Low water seems to have affected the food chain and plant growth as well. I've caught a few smallmouth that were quite skinny, and there are dead white suckers all over the place. The walleyes have taken up new locations too, but finding them has been fun. Good luck.

The water is the lowest I have seen it in 35 years... Gonna hold off bringing in the pier since it is out of the water already. Put it in over the 4th, 40 feet farther out than normal. 1 month later the 40 ft of pier is now out of water. We had to walk out another 20 feet to float the rowboat.. I hope we get some good rains this fall...

Wondering if anyone has been out on the lake fishing and if so is the water up at all compared to last summer. I know the water level was very low when August rolled around last year.

Thanks, I will give it a try. Also, heard lake is pretty good for bass, so will try for them as well.

The muskies I've caught have mostly been on the shallow side of the lake (the warm side), in just a few feet of water. I've also had two on the deep side, in about 8 feet near the sandbar in the evenings. To me, it seems like they chase the fish that are chasing the forage. But I don't know much of anything about muskies. All the ones I've caught have been on a little Rapala crankbaits. Always a big surprise.

I plan on fishing this lake in the summer and was wondering if there are muskies in this lake and if so what is the best technique in catching them. Seems to be a lake with very little structure??? thanks

I fished sugar camp about 7 or 8 yrs. ago. If I remember right there is 2 lakes that are separated by a shallow sand bar. The other lake had a couple of weed beds that were pretty good for smallies and largemouths.Water was extremely clear so light line was the ticket.

There is a launch, but it has 4x4 posts that have been up for quite a while, making it carry-in access only. If I've heard correctly, it did have a stocking program many years ago. This lake however, has one of the highest mercury levels around, making it a mostly catch and release fishery. Muskie, northern, smallmouth, largemouth. Unbelievable walleye fishing. Very worthwhile if you have a canoe or kayak. The parking lot is very close to the "launch" so it's an easy put-in. I've put the kayak in many times and have never regretted it.
