Coming to Sturgeon Bay next weekend for a mini "family" vacation (meaning we won't be bring our own boat plus have never fished the area and only a part of a day to fish).

My son is a bass nut and really wants to get out for some of Door Ctys/Sturgeon Bays famous smallies.

Looking for someone willing to take us (my son and I) out the morning/early afternoon on Friday 8/17.  We are experienced fishermen and could bring our own gear.  Of course would be willing to pay for gas, treat for lunch or ???!

PM me if able to help us out. Thanks

Thanks to everyone who pm’d me with tips and help.  I really appreciated it,  here is my report.

Fish in my area are in full summer pattern and are getting tough to catch. My buddy went out with a guide 2 weeks ago on SB and killed it fishing smallmouth catching around 40 fish 2-4 lbs. I’d never been to SB so thought I’d give it a go. On the 4 hour drive I listened to a ton of YouTube videos of people catching monster smb. One thing I did observe was all the videos were taken during spring time. Launched from quarry yesterday at 9am and fished around that area and up to little bay. Headed over to sand bay and then back into SB and worked some of the east shoreline before heading back to quarry then sand bay and back to quarry. Put in close to 11 hours on the water. Caught a lot of dink small mouths a few rock bass and a pike a goby and a big drum. Not the killer day I was hoping for. They didn’t want cranks or anything fast as the tube and drop shot only seemed to work. Today hit water at 9am similar conditions but more wind. My buddy who killed it 2 weeks and his buddy joined me. They took me to a couple spots the guide took them to 2 weeks ago but we only managed 1 dink smb. A guide picked them up so I got the bright idea to boat through the very long canal to Lake Michigan to fish the lighthouse. Looked like an awesome area. No bites. Went back through canal and worked a lot of deep drop offs weed lines points rock areas etc. 1 pike and 1 Perch. Kept working north along west shore stopping anywhere that looked fishey. Nada. Tried sawyer Bay and the large point at far NW area of Sb. Then over to sand bay and called it around 6pm. 1 rock bass. My buddy had a tough day with the guide as well. They caught a few on their last spot which was Larson’s reef. Not 1 smb in 9 hours. I should have kept my expectations in check but those spring videos got me excited. For other newbies to SB like me just be prepare for tough summer days just like everywhere else.

Taking my first ever fishing trip to door county.  Going solo to Sturgeon Bay to try for Smallies Tuesday and Wednesday.  Any advice is appreciated.  I’m not looking for honey holes as I’m willing to put the work in but mostly looking what to avoid.  Like don’t bother with anything shallower than 5 ft or don’t bother deeper than ?.  Thanks and if anyone is out I’ll be the guy in a black Tritoon is appears confused but smiling because I won’t be at work.

Pretty neat video of what gobbies do to beds when fish are pulled off them. Legal to poach off beds yes, even ethical for some, did it once with my 5 yr old son for help get him hooked. To each their own        https://www.facebook.com/395084746702/posts/10156482934546703/

Toothy & Tater, as Wacky stated page 72 is the Lake Michigan special regs. Nothing to do with inland waters or highway dividing lines. Only true restrictions are centered on Washington Island. Just read the 2 lines for large mouths and smalllies. It says it all.
