Over the past week if you wanted to fish you had to do it before the late afternoon/evening rains came.

lakestate08 - must be you I see out there drifting for walleyes. You're right on with the dragging a floating jig/leech combo. My go to choice too right now.

Ashman14 - Stroble Island is just a stump on the north side of Petersons Point that is usually out of the wind. It's located on the eastern shore and south of the small rocky islands. The stump now has a solar light on it that must need a new battery. For food on the lake - Sunset Bay is more of a supper club type and is always good. Roll-in Point and Polish Palace have fish frys and sandwiches, Comfort Cove has new owners and has pizza. We patronize all of them and also go to Bonnies, Crystal Cafe, or Freight House for breakfasts, Phillips Cafe for chicken specials, and Beaches, Birch Island, and Harbor View. Ask others for their ideas.

I'm coming up to this lake this weekend as a newbie to this lake from Illinois for vacation. Hoping to find some fish to keep the teenagers busy. Not looking for anything specific just to get them some good fishing but laying in to some good crappie would be fun. Any advice on bait to use for this lake and locations in the lake to try or for that matter to stay away from? I also saw someone mentioned people hanging out at Strobel Island. What is there? People pull up boats to swim there? Any advice to restaurants in the area to try is appreciated as well. Thanks!

Hey Gumpa, Nice Musky!!! Very Healthy looking fish. The ones left in there are probably feeding heavy on all those fat large mouths. I will probably start throwing here shortly for musky. I wish it was like it was a few years ago on them. I need to take some of them bass to get the scraps for Trapping this year.

Ross's Bait Shop is right in downtown Phillips. John Carlson is the owner and a fishing guide. He normally has his finger on the pulse of all the lakes in the area. Stop on in!

Hey All,

I am headed up to this lake in 2 weeks for our Honey Moon and I was wondering if there was a bait shop near or on the lake that you would recomend? Also any fishing advice is very welcome. We are going to target some pan fish as that is what she enjoys.

Thanks Cory

Hey Stlheadr, I feel your pain. Maybe we can drown our sorrows over a drink someday.

Been doing my best to reduce the LM Bass population this week and provide some relatives with some meals of bass. Largest was 18" with lots of 10" to 13". Also hooking a few muskies lately.

Was up from the 8th to the 20th and had a pretty good trip fishing wise.

It was slow at times but the Crappie bite was still pretty solid and the Walleyes were hitting as well. I kept quite a few Crappie and went home with a couple Walleye meals. I could have had many more but I generally threw back the 10-14 inchers.

One of the best moments of the trip came on Sunday the 13th when a 40ish inch muskie hitting my #2 spoon Orange/Yellow Beetle Spin. It happened a little but out from the county park launch so it doesn't sound like it was far from where you caught yours Lakestate08. Since he was on my Ultra Lite I was unable to get him in the boat but I did fight him for a few minutes before he jumped and snipped my line. Yours didn't by chance have a Beetle Spin stuck in it's mouth did it Lakestate? Wink
