Fisher Sidie Hollow yesterday for about seven hours. Caught a lot of small perch and small gills, but they made us work for it. Also caught two nice brown trout which was a nice surprise. All catch and release. There is a lot of ice out on the lake, but the landing was pretty sketchy. Open water on the creek side and water on top of the ice on the other side. Will probably only get worse with this heat wave. Be safe!

Three fisherman on ice-two by fishing pier and one on other side(beach side. I talked to the two guys, they had a few small gills and a couple of bass. Lots of smalls. 4-5 inches of ice. Ice is clear, so should continue to freeze.

Was out this morning around 10:00, have four inches of ice in some spots, mostly three inches. I only ventured out in front of the dock by the east shore. Any thick snow covered area is still slush and is not safe to walk on, you'll fall right in. Ice was pretty scary still, I left when the temps got above freezing. Seems like we're losing ice when I left, so yeah I wouldn't go out yet.

Drove up from Iowa to visit my brother in Viola in hopes to fish this lake as always. Checked out the lake this morning at 11:00, currently an inch and a half of slush that must have frozen solid last night, drilled a hole off the dock. Absolutely no black ice forming under the frozen slush yet. The ice did hold my 190lbs but I was stationary and no way was I walking on that sketchy ice. So yeah no good ice for awhile is my guess, maybe in a week or two I'll venture out.

Good day to everyone who looks at this. Has any ice started forming on the lake yet? If it has do you know when It started? I'm thinking the ice hasn't started forming yet and will start forming tonight with the calm winds and the low temps. Should have a good solid four inches by saturday. If the ice starts to form today December 29th. If the ice already started forming before the snow we got yesterday, I'd stay of the ice for atleast another week.

Went out in my boat on sunday, what a day, went perch fishing in the morning with my dad until noon, ended up with 39 fish average catch was 7 to 11". Tossed out later for perch near the bottom and caught a few crappies on the drop. So my father and I quickly changed the depths of our slip bobber's and started nailin Crappies, most of these fish were 8 and 9". A few 10's My brother joined us soon after and we trolled back to the spot and just started hammerin the fish again. Caught atleast fifty crappies, kept a few of the nicer sized males. Tons of fish out there, if you know what you're doing you can have a great time.

During the Ice fishing season my father, brother and I caught over a hundred good sized gills, perch and Crappie. Most gills in the 7 to 10" range. All looked very clean no black spots. we were fishing in the deeper flats near the bottom. Not sure if location is a factor of whether or not the fish will contain those black spots. The black spots are from a past exposure to the parasite not an active infection. The parasite is an opaque color and will also be found in the meat, mainly in warmer water conditions during the summer and fall. The immature form of the parasite enters throught the flesh of the fish and travels to the stomach where it matures and then is pooped out by the fish then it breeds has more baby parasites and then the cycle starts agian. Cook it properly and you will be fine plus this parasite does not cause infections in humans

Fished Saturday with my wife, our 2 boys, a friend and his 3 kids. We had tip ups out and jigged and only iced one bluegill. We were on the Shelter side of the lake in about 15 feet of water.

Sunday I went back with my youngest son and we went out further from the shelter and fished in about 18 feet of water. We caught some perch, bluegills and 1 crappie. Size was not great, but I we hadn't had fish in a while, so we kept enough for a meal. Unfortunately, when I cleaned the bluegills, they were peppered with those black parasites in the flesh of the fillets. I know they are supposed to be "ok" to eat, but there were literally hundreds of them in each fillet and I couldn't consciously feed them to my family. Too bad. Anyone else see this as well?
