MOON PHASE (76%)
Waxing Gibbous

I was at the river yesterday and the mud is out a long long ways. This year has not been good for getting out for spring fishing.

boelrich:

Try to get better information before traveling all the way up north to saxon or even any of the other Superior south shore ports.  It sounds like the mud is out to 3 miles in a lot of cases.  They are looking at 10-15 knots NE for the weekend as well.  If you can get better intel that makes you feel  like giving it a shot, let us know.  We were trying for tonight and/or tomorrow...

copy and paste and look at all the brown water at Ashland and how dark it is to the east toward Saxon

Had a pretty decent day once we found them. Stayed in close in 10-20' and made quick circles around a hungry school of coho. Lost a few due to double headers and the craziness that comes with that. Ended up with 8 coho and lost four. Clown husky jerks and smelt colored stickbaits did the trick. Bumper boats out there today!

I fished Sat and Sun mornings. I targeted the 10 to 15 feet of water. The key for me was find the bait fish. Sat. I had one coho and lost two at the boat all on Rapalas. Sun I fought the layer of ice in the morning but ended up catching three coho and a steelhead. These fish came on flies and were out in 30 feet of water west of the harbor. Good luck fishing!

I talked to the Forestry Dept. today and the dock should be in by the weekend. They said to watch out for hazards and water depth in the harbor. Good luck. I will be out on Sat. and give a fish report later.
