Did a dive on Ripley last Wednesday. Water temp at 42°F and much clearer then the previous dive. A lot of the weeds are knocked down now, but still some green ones. Used the metal detector and found an old ice spud, with only the flat cutting blade sticking straight up. The rest of the spud (not sure how long it was, between 4' to 5', left it there) was buried in the muck bottom. I think I was in about 13 FOW at the time. I pulled it out and then pushed it all the way down (cutting blade in first) without touching hard bottom. So there's an example of how much of the soft silty crap is down there! Little tricky getting the boat back on the trailer with the wind honking parallel to shore and no pier in at Island Lane. Rick

Out side scanning Ripley this morning. Covered quite a bit of the lake (mostly out from the weeds heading out into deep water) and there isn't much out there. Found a group of Christmas trees (little Bluegills and LMB hanging on them), a few logs and a couple of things I couldn't identify. Water clarity very poor below the thermocline which is why I couldn't identify some hits. I assume there's a lot of carp present, marked lots of larger fish just outside the weed lines all around the lake. Still suspended schools of panfish at all depths (most are suspended around 15') but did mark schools deeper also. Didn't waste any time trying to see what they were. Water temps ranged from 66.5 @ 3' to 55.7 @ 32' to 50.7 @ 43'. Will try to hit it again just before freeze up, assume the lake clears up decent after turnover. Not many other boats out today.

Did a dive on Ripley this morning, water clarity better then the Madison chain so that was a plus (not good, but anytime it's better then what you're used to it's a good thing). Water temp at 72°F. Was in the weeds/weed edges most of the time, very large number of Zebra mussels. Haven't dove here in a while, unpleasant surprise. Only saw young of the year fish (Gills and LMB). Bottom all deep silt, couldn't touch hard bottom by sticking my arm down as far as I could. Beautiful morning to be out, no wake until 11am is nice!

Murman I hope you had better fishing than we had.  We got about seven panfish for the weekend but did enjoy ourselves.  We fished shallow, deep, and in between.  Anchored and drifted but not much was happening.  The one real bright spot was learning about my trolling motor having a directional feature that kept us going in a particular direction without steering.

Thanks again for the info and tight lines in the future.

PS:  The people at the marina were really nice.  It almost felt like being up north!

Should try and take there boat numbers down and call it in, there are laws for being to close to other boats when traveling at high speeds it's not a respect or etiquette thing it's a law. They bust people on rock lake for this when they are called in.  And a lot of time last there are more then just speed tickets handed out a lot of times and owi goes with it cause a majority of the time there are drunk my 4yr old and I were almost capsized by a very large speed boat that came towards us and cut a quick right turn causing a huge wake and we were anchored. Let's just say I didn't get the boat numbers but described the boat to a T and the lake police handed out a very large fine not only for disobeying the distanc laws but for also endangering a child. They were escorted off the lake

I like launching at the marina the best.  The problem with the main boat landing is that it is wayyy to busy and full of disrespectful boaters/tubers that will not let you launch or get your boat back in.  And ps, the boaters on this lake is just as disrespectful on the water and will go full speed by you within 10 feet.  Try to fish before 11 am when there is no wake, then move to the no wake zones after that fort fishing.   So definitely launch at the marina, you will have your boat in and out in 5 minutes.   Main launch may be an hour.   And do not be surprised how disrespectful boaters are on this lake.. And by boaters I mean by people who don't fish.  Stay inside no wake zones between 11-7 and you will be fine!  Tight lines!!

Coming over this weekend and am new to the lake.  I will be launching my boat and was wondering where the closest launch to the north side of the lake is.  I am staying on Ripley Road not far off of Hwy 18.  I will post how fishing is.  The previous posts that I read have been helpful in understanding the rules of the lake that is one reason why I like Lake-Link!

Thanks in advance.  Tight lines.

PS: I am not a water skier or personal water craft owner.

All over the lake from 10-2 on Saturday.  Tried 10-25 foot depths with spoons, spinners, suckers, crawlers...not a bite.  Finally moved just past the launch in 8 feet just off the bouys.  Caught 3 bass on suckers biggest 18 inches at around 1pm.
