Monday July 24

With high water found 10'-11' depths in Rice Lake. In these deeper areas found bluegills from the bottom to more then half-way up to the surface. Worms on jigs produced plenty of fish.

Much sorting but found 6" - 7.5'' gills and one 9 inch bluegill. As reported by many there is a major population of bullheads, which accounted for about half of the bites. Easily returning more then 50 back to the water.

RICE LAKE    HIGH WATER LEVEL     7-24-2017

Fished Rice Lake via Highway 106 access from the Silverwood County Park parking lot. See photo. Lake level at least a couple of feet high. Parking lot half under water.

Good news is with high water levels, no need to portage from Sweet Lake into Rice Lake. See photo.

To answer previous question - this is a  small craft water access - not an improved boat launch.  See photo.

Does this lake have boat ramp access? I can't seem to find anything on the map.  Also, is this "no motor" restrictions?

Went out Saturday in the canoe  targeting bass. Used spinners and caught plenty of 12 inches with one nice 17". Had to really battle the wind on the way back.

Had a great day on the lake today! I caught around 40 gills, 4 crappies, 2 perch, 6 bass with the biggest being 18" 3.2 lbs. And the best part was only catching one bullhead!

Ice varied 5-7inches on 01-02-17 and I can only guess it is a lot more after the last few day's freeze. As for fishing, it has been slow. I have been out a total of 6 days here so far this season and only managed 3 gills, 2 perch, 3 small LMB on tipups, and a few small bullheads.

Not a report but came across the access today. There were a dozen trucks in the lot and no one in site so I assume everyone was fishing Rice Lake. Anyone care to post on ice depth or if you're really in a generous mood "How's the fishing"? TIA

Ice is thin and a few people are heading out. Please use common sense and bring saftey equipment. I just saw two young fisherman with a ton of gear walk over very thin ice without even checking. The fish in this lake are not worth taking an arctic swim.

I got off work today and decided to enjoy the great weather. Loaded up the boat and headed out on the lake around 5pm. Was wanting to target the undersize gills, but didn't manage a single one. I did hook about 2 dozen bullheads. The best part about today was I found the elusive crappie under some wood near shore. Landed 6 small crappie using 1" gulp minnows on small ice jig 2' under the surface.

Been fishing this lake most of summer. Different weather conditions, different time of date, different bait and bait presentation. I've caught literally a couple hundred bullhead, and a handful of really small bluegills, very small largemouth bass, and a couple perch. The bullheads are aggressive and attack everything including crank baits half thier size. I haven't found a spot on the lake that isnt overrun by bullhead. That pike I've been searching so hard for has been too elusive for me but I keep trying. There real isn't much structure other than fallen trees as the lake is pretty flat and those structures hold bullheads. My feeling is this lake gets cleaned out during the winter by ice fishermen. It's a nice lake to troll around and enjoy time on the water if you understand you arent going to catch much to get excited about.
