MOON PHASE (74%)
Waxing Gibbous

CONDITIONS
Partly Sunny

AIR TEMP

WATER TEMP

Shad are schooling very heavily in the river.  I was able to snag a few with treble hooks then throw them out to catch waiting smallmouth.  There were other fish but the smallmouth would hit before any other fish had a chance.  Just was fishing in the park and the shoreline around it.

Been hitting up the Red Cedar River lately, and if anyone is looking to catch some mooneye for the smoker..they are everywhere! They are hitting everything from flies to small crankbaits to floating jigs! Probably caught 100 the past couple days! Also the small catfish have been hitting pretty decent on cutbait! Tight lines

is this river any good at this time of the year for fishing? have had success below the dam during the summer. otherwise is above the lake any good in the river? not necessarily below cedar falls but anywhere between menomin and there? thanks for the info pm me if you wish. got the itch to get the summer gear out!

Threw a 1/8oz Kastmaster spoon for about an hour this evening at Riverside Park.

Caught five smallmouth (10"-13"). Small, but a lot of fun on the ultralight.

Saw one other guy catch a white sucker but that is it.

I used to get mooneyes on the fly rod. A black foam spider worked the best for me.

Crawlers can be good for Mooneye, if they are rising dry flies are deadly. They usually aren't too picky about dries, most anything around a size 12 will work.
