Fished the Prairie River Dells for the first time-only had oneon a silver rooster tail, but lost the little brookie on the way in to shore. Will be back in a couple of weeks to try again, somewhere on the River
I'm planning on going Saturday afternoon for a bit to try some casting (sick of icefishing for a bit)
I drove through on Sunday and noticed a trail by the dells to get to the river and a bridge on Heineman rd that looked like decent access to it.
I've never fished the prairie though and was wondering if one stretch is better than the other for wading. Really don't want to get my waders full on unfamiliar water in the spring.

Fished the river a couple hours this afternoon after the Brewer game.
Caught two Brookies and one Brown trout. Lost the only keeper I had on and that was about a 14" brook trout.
Tics are thick and once the sun got behind the trees the skeeters came to life and drove me off the river. Fun evening while it lasted.

My son and I paddled the Prairie River from the DNR fishery area to the park in Merrill. Between the fishery area and County C I caught 7-8 trout and lost a few. One really nice brown close to County C, a couple little brookies and the rest decent size browns and brookies. I was casting a tiny black rooster tail spinner and caught all fish on the same lure until one finally snapped me off. We didn't stop, we just paddled and whenever I had stretch where I could get a couple casts in I tried my luck. Very fun, but in the future I won't continue past County C (kind of boring).

I just wanted to let everyone know that I fish in the park in Merrill sometimes, and there are a lot of suckers. nice ones, by the way, and they're fun to catch but you're right. I've seen 2 trout there in about a year, and one was either a huge trout or a northern. It had brown trout spots on it though... I have also seen some smallmouth come out and a beautiful walleye, though. Thanks for the info about Gleason. i'll have to try that sometime.
