Waning Gibbous

CONDITIONS
Partly Sunny

AIR TEMP
66° - 70° F

WATER TEMP
51° - 55° F

Fished the river a couple hours this afternoon after the Brewer game.

Caught two Brookies and one Brown trout. Lost the only keeper I had on and that was about a 14" brook trout.

Tics are thick and once the sun got behind the trees the skeeters came to life and drove me off the river. Fun evening while it lasted.

My son and I paddled the Prairie River from the DNR fishery area to the park in Merrill. Between the fishery area and County C I caught 7-8 trout and lost a few. One really nice brown close to County C, a couple little brookies and the rest decent size browns and brookies. I was casting a tiny black rooster tail spinner and caught all fish on the same lure until one finally snapped me off. We didn't stop, we just paddled and whenever I had stretch where I could get a couple casts in I tried my luck. Very fun, but in the future I won't continue past County C (kind of boring).

A few weeks back I fished the Prairie River trails right in Merrill and lost a nice brookie at the bank had to be at least 12" or so I didnt really get a look before it popped off my hook, did manage to get a nice brown right at Stanges park 2 years ago when I first moved up here but that is about it, like everyone says you have to go around Gleason for any decent fishing, I also checked out the Prairie Dells park, one other guy fishing down there he said he pulls out some decent browns once in a while with some rainbows.

Is this up by Merrill? Anyone got any info? I always come up here with father in law and friends for opener- usually get a lot of suckers and a few trout. Any tips or info is appreciated!!! Good luck all ! Meet us at the Hub opening weekend (that Friday!) Cheers

No fish biting at all. Not a good stream to fish, really bad water.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I fish in the park in Merrill sometimes, and there are a lot of suckers. nice ones, by the way, and they're fun to catch but you're right. I've seen 2 trout there in about a year, and one was either a huge trout or a northern. It had brown trout spots on it though... I have also seen some smallmouth come out and a beautiful walleye, though. Thanks for the info about Gleason. i'll have to try that sometime.

Good fishing, acafisherman19

Go way north on the river past gleason and way up even further and you will catch many trout. Using spinners and flys i caught 35 brookies like 10 miles north of gleason.

I have been in Merrill for 4 years now. I tried to fish by the "park" but all i caught were suckers. People say there is nothing more than that. You have to go north on the prairie to find fish.

Hi all,

I work up in Merrill and was just wondering if the Praire River runnning through town and north away from the WI River has anything in it? I saw a guy down there fishing today but he said he didn't catch anything. I just want to know if it is even worth my time to try to fish it and if so where would the best place to start be? Any info would be greatly appreciated since I am new to fishing up here and haven't a clue where to start. There isn't any past information on Lake Link to go off so that is why I am coming to ya'll for answers. Thanks guys.
