Chris - What's your opinion on the stain? I initially thought it might be pollen but the lake certainly smells like it's under an algae bloom. I know there could be a number of causes and combinations of factors and the turbidity has been high intermittently in certain areas around the channel and Bay 5, for example, even under hard water this winter.

Have you seen stain or turbidity like this on Okauchee before? Another Okauchee dweller mentioned he'd spoken to the water quality sampler on Nehmabin who indicated clarity there is 60% of what it typically is at this point in May. It was the sampler's opinion that it could be caused by the lack of rain in April and the heavy rains we've seen so far this month, meaning what run-off and decomposition is typically washed out of the lakes in April festered into May and warmer water.

MOON PHASE (67%)
Waxing Gibbous

WATER TEMP
61° - 65° F

Out today for a bit with my dad. Got a bit of a late start, but was on the water a little before 9. Water was low to mid 60's. Lots of bass defending fry in the spawning bays.

Mainlake areas have some very dirty water with some sort of suspended load...fishing in areas with those conditions was fairly slow, but we managed to scratch a couple together.

Spent some time looking for some cleaner water and got on something that was working reasonably consistently when we found it.

Caught a mixed bag of LM and SM, but had to work a bit to get them. 15+ LM up to 18", but most were 13-15" with a couple that were 12". Mostly schooled up fish. Moved to some gravel transitions and had a handful of SM 13-16" Hard to hit consistency with so many areas with that dirty water. Also caught one Rockbass that was 13" and a couple of hammer-handle pike.

Tip: Find bait and weeds together....stick around. Doubly true if the water you're looking at is on the cleaner side.

Going to fish another lake, and try to find some cleaner water for a week or so. Good Luck.

Not a report, more of a question. New to lake country area and am looking for some good spots to shore fish Okauchee Lake, or any lakes in the area for that matter. Don’t have a working boat at the moment so any tips and/or locations to fish, or knowledge of structure on these local lakes would be fantastic. Can pm if desired. Looking for info on gamefish, not much into panfish. Thanks so much!  Chris

Yes, the main lake is open. Haven't been in every bay on the lake yet but looks to be completely opened up.
