Thanks everyone! I am coming from the north and will be going right through Mondovi. Thanks Critter! Weather is looking questionable for the beginning of the weekend but I will be out anyway!

Nelson is the only place for minnows close by. If coming from the north Mondovi has a bait shop with minnows..The place in winona the poster was referring to was west end bait and it is closed ..

If you are heading to Alma from the south I know of 3 options for minnows.

Winona - Daniels Ace Hardware just off the bridge coming from 35 - take a right as you come off the bridge into Winona and then the next right (Huff / Riverview Dr.) and you will run into it on the left side of the road.

Winona - Hogline Bait & Tackle at 302 Mankato Ave (towards Fleet Farm). This just recently opened.

The other option is B&S Express in Buffalo City - gas station / convenience store that has bait.

West End bait that was on West 5th in Winona has been closed for several months now.

Good luck

Last time I was there I couldn't find minnows to save my life since the main bait shop went out of biz.  All the gas stations all the way down through Fountain City only have worms.  Didn't try the Nelson place.  If you find them close, please post details.  Going up next weekend.

I go over the Winona bridge, turn right about 1mile or less is a bait shop on the right. Been awhile though. Minnesota has better prices, pick up some killer jigs when your there...if it's still open...

Well guys i got my walleye itch scratched and it was goooood. Got out at 815ish, bite started very slow. I few perch on a pink floating jig head with half crawler. Things really pooped out then the northern went on a tear for about 30 minutes got 6. biggest maybe 24. then it was a steady bite from that point on. nothing that sets your hair on fire, but enough to keep it interesting. Around 12 got my first eye a shorty and followed it up with a 17". The slime rockets are thick this year, not sure if thats the norm. have not run into the numbers in past years like im getting this year.

All told got 9 norts 4 eyes and about a dozen perch. 1 perch came in at about 11" . so i guess all told i had two legit keeper fish.

Despite the constant rain i cant lie, i had a dang good time. meet some great cats out there sharing the rain.

stay safe and good fishin!!

It's been a pretty good bite this week. There's good numbers of perch, walleye, and northerns up by the dam now. I don't have the water temp right now( it's cold) but should start warming up next week if we get some nicer weather. The water is low for this time of year and shouldn't change for now. It's a very nice, fishable current. Crawlers or minnows for the perch, jigs and minnows for the walleyes.
